I've been looking through my local classifieds for a while and I can't find a Tacoma in my price range with less than 100K miles. most are 90-140k. It makes me nervous to buy a car with that many miles.... I know tacomas are dependable trucks and all, but would you buy a tacoma with mileage like that? assuming you didn't have one obviously...

EDIT: Also, would the answer still be the same for the 4 cyl? the reason im asking is because i would think that a 4 cyl would be a little more worn, since they have to rev to a higher rpm to keep up with traffic or make a pass on the highway. thoughts?

I'd be careful. If the seller is a boy racer or someone who's into wheeling, then no. But if it's an old guy who takes care of his stuff, then yes.

I bought my taco a few months ago with 149xxx on it. No problems as of yet. Hell the ford I was driving had 190xxx on it and was still going. It the ford can do it, I know the yota can! :D

It all comes down to proper maintenance and just taking care of your vehicle. I believe there was a guy in another thread that had 427k on his taco...

LOL, yeah us old guys are notorious for taking care of our shit, I agree with the above statement about buying someone's beat to shit truck, but on the other hand, I bought my 2000 TRD with 94K on it, it now has 122K (I've only had it about 6 months & have had nothing but good times) I wouldn't hesitate about buying a higher mileage Toy, but just use your common sense & look for the signs of not so much abuse but NEGLECT, lack of maintenance, etc;......

P.S. Am I the only one getting monthly flyers from AARP ??

All the trucks im looking at are city trucks. I always like to buy my stuff from 35 and up mechanically inclined owners. However most im finding are at these pre-owned dealership lots that don't seem to know anything about the previous owners. that bugs me.

Also, would the answer still be the same for the 4 cyl? the reason im asking is because i would think that a 4 cyl would be a little more worn, since they have to rev to a higher rpm to keep up with traffic or make a pass on the highway. thoughts?

I have done it.....twice. First one was totaled and the second one was bought at 121k and has over 160k now. So to answer your question...NO.

I am young also, was 19 when I bought my current truck(see signature) it had 170k on the clock when I bought it, I was jobless, still am(in other words I am broke and I don't think about repairing my truck, why would I? It never messes up, that's why.). She runs like a top. I would not hesitate to buy a Toyota that had 200k if it was priced right. Matter of fact, the 1992 that I had about 3 years ago had 209k when I bought it and 26-k when I sold it. It still runs to this day. The guy that bought it from me wrecked it at 280-290k, put it in another truck, and it still runs. That was a 3.0 motor. These trucks are fucking bulletproof, don't hesitate.

1st gens 2004 & older would need a timing belt replaced somewhere around 120k miles(2nd gens 2005 & newer have timing chains, probably replace around 250k miles).

Other than that I wouldn't have aproblem buying one. My 05 has 133,000 miles & all I have replaced is the factory battery a couple of months ago. And of course I do the routine maintenance.

i'd say it also depends on who your buying it from, like someone said before if its a young person that is rallying the piss out of it or street racing everywhere they go then no i wouldn't buy it if it were anywhere near 100k but if its an old guy who you know isn't driving it hard then i would maybe consider going up a bit

Yes I would if it was an 01-04. Earlier, it would depend on the price and a self-inspection of the frame, among the other components of course. But with a focus on the frame.

My 4cyl was the first vehicle I owned. Bought it with 220k for $2800 from a small used car dealership where the guy had just driven it on business trips on the highway. It now has 250k and still no problems except the O2 sensors and MAF sensor failed recently. Other than that it has been basic maintenance to keep it in top shape. It still pulls a loaded trailer and does all the farm work that is asked of it like a champ. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another tacoma especially a 4cyl with 100k they're bulletproof!

I got my 1998 2.7L in 2007 with 101K on it. It now has close to 150K and its running great. As long as the previous owner(s) took care of it, then buying a Toyota with over 100K on it is no problem. Go play on Kelly Blue Book and type in a 1st gen truck with high mileage. These Tacomas still pull a good price tag after all those miles. Tacomas are just flat out good trucks.

my buddy has a 4 banger with 400k, was rebuilt at 320k still has all orinal components. Thats what made me go with the 4cyl, since i didnt hear to many good things about the v6. yes i would buy a taco with 100k since it would have another 200k left lol

I sold my 2003 v6 Extended cab with 162,000 miles on it earlier this year? Sold in like 2 or 3 days. I would like to think that the guy who bought it (late 60's buying it for his grandson) took into consideration that I was a 38 yr old married father of 3 who took care of his vehicle and made a 114 mile round trip to work everyday. Lots of variables in there for one to consider when buying a used vehicle.

    WOW!!!
