i felt the same way when i traded out my taco for an f150 reg cab short bed 4x4, i somehow convinced myselt that i wasn't gonna wheel that much more and the wheel base was the same as a new taco and anyway the ford is gone. more volume for money does not equate to a better truck for the money. this is fully subjective to each owner though.

so... if lexus is putting their badge in the global hilux platform and making it available in north america that would be an interesting development.

not only interesting in a good way though.... it would be like toyota saying hey fawk you, if you don't have the money for the lexus badge you get the lesser truck. now why not just put the hilux out here instead of the gen 2.5 tacoma...

Easily explained .. If it's for sale, it will sell. Doesn't matter what logo is on it.

    Lexus pickup won't happen:

    1) Lincoln Mark LT and Caddy Escalade SXT have been sales failures. The market however is willing to pay for a premium trim level like the Sierra Denali or F150 King Ranch. Toyota's answer was the Tundra 1794 Edition.

    2) Toyota doesn't sell or manufacture the Hilux in Japan. Who wants to buy a Lexus made in Thailand or Argentina? :D

If they bring a hilix over and put a Lexus badge on it I will be bidding the taco adieu

The tacoma isn't that much smaller than full sizes...unless of course you get the shorter wheel base...but then you either got no room in the back seat or no room in the bed. If you are getting a double cab long bed, you are talking a couple inches if that. Really the only thing is that it is narrower which is good for off roading. It is heavier than last years generation which i dont know how that is possible. The tundra is only about a thousand pounds heavier.

I totally respect that many people only use a pickup to do real work and have another vehicle for city runs, etc. Heck, I have a Mustang GT for driving fun and commuting in the summer. However, 90% of my summer vacations involve towing my 5000lbs camper, hence why I want both luxury and the ability to haul shit. An SUV won't do, half the time I need to bring a generator and gasoline on our camping trips and I don't want that stuff in the same airspace as my family. Also, my four wheeler won't fit in an SUV. I also don't want to drive a bare bones pickup while towing or during my winter commute.

You have to compare apples to apples. A DCSB is about 18" shorter than a full size crew cab short box. I'd guess that a DCLB is also 18" shorter than a full size crew cab long box.
I've had my DCSB for three years and not once have I wished for the long bed. My four wheeler fits. Every Home Depot reno project has fit. My bikes and camping gear fit. A 5 ft bed has lots of room for me and I use it often.

A thousand pounds heavier is still 23% heavier, that's significant.

Exactly....... and I don't want a fullsize. Will be considering a Denali / Canyon simply because Toyota doesn't have all the goodies that I'm more than willing to pay for. :) But, we'll see. I'm still researching.... Will test drive everything.

The Lexus truck is gonna be the same as a Tacoma with more bells & whistles. It's just a damn shame they can't option out the Tacoma to have all those bells & whistles. It's almost like.....the Lexus idea will 'look prettier'. Whaaaaa....
Yea, I want luxury...but I like my trucks to look HARD CORE. Not dainty.....

My husband already has a luxury SUV. We don't need another SUV in the family. I consider myself those people who want 'luxury' because I'm old and can afford it now. Just because we want luxury....doesn't mean we don't need a truck for other purposes. We still do our own yardwork, fix our own house/cars when we can, do our own maintenance, etc. How do you think we're able to afford such luxuries??

It's not even about one vs the other. I've always loved the hilux, and the diesel ranger
