Garage Wall & Floor Paint Ideas

Hey guys! I bought my house back in May. And am just now getting to work on my garage.
I have cement flooring and the walls have holes that I have filled and real old paint that needs to be replaced. Does anyone have any pictures of their garages and cool paint and floor schemes they have done? Here are a couple I've seen and really like the look. Any recommendations??

 

I have been searching for a garage flooring solution as well.

I do not want to do epoxy (mainly due to our ever-changing weather here in Portland) because of the peeling issues.

The two leading solutions I have found so far are Race Deck and SwissTrax. Similar in price (vary by a few cents) and size. Depends on which marketing campaign you believe, but the independent reviews tend to lean towards Race Deck.

I am still undecided thanks to a furnace giving out on us recently. Funds went elsewhere!

Yes but I have heard (not sure how true) that the race deck can cause mold build up due to wet cars parking in garage and the water getting stuck between the padding and the cement... Any thoughts?

 

I read the same thing. It's an installation issue, it appears.

The garage decking is the same concept as a floating laminate floor in a house's cement basement. As long as there is a place for the water to escape via gravity or evaporation, you'll be fine. Folks run into issues when the installation is done as "tight" as possible to prevent water from getting in. Well, that doesn't work very well as water gets in. If it can't evaporate, it stays.

If I recall correctly, the installation videos for both products requires a gap around the edges for this very reason and to allow the natural expansion/contraction of the product.

Just keep a few things in mind when looking for your solution: all products have pros and cons.

Epoxy is by far the most economical solution and can last a long time if you prep correctly and maintain it. The plastic decking products are expensive but they can also fail.

It depends on what you are looking to accomplish at a given price range. I'm not trying to deter you from looking at any options!

Oh I know your not trying to deter me. I appreciate the insight and heads up. I think first thing is to paint the garage. Think I'm gonna go for a grey style color. After the walls and ceiling are done I'll go for the floor.

"bump" is a generic term for Bumping the thread to the top of the forum list and "Subbed" means Subscribed. When you post on a thread, you automatically subscribe to it. You may also see ppl use "ttt" which means "To The Top"... sending the thread back to the top of the sub forum.

 

I had a Racedeck floor in a garage at a previous home... 2006-2010. It holds up well, looks really nice. Only downside is it's a bit of a pain to keep clean. Easy enough to sweep but if you have to mop, that's the pain. Getting dirt from all the uneven surfaces is one thing. Dirt getting in the cracks is another. If you're not a perfectionist, it's a great choice.

Here are some pics of my garage floor. This is Armstrong VCT tile. These pics are from my previous house, but I have the same floor in my current garage. I have had the tile in my current garage for 4 years and it is holding up great. Installation took a full day, but was fairly easy. I went with the VCT because it was much cheaper than the Racedeck. It cost me just under $400 to tile a 400 sq ft garage.

 

@Spitz Stang, what kind of prep goes into this? Does this stuff glue down or snap together?
