Manufactures don't care about rust as much as an adhesion issue between 2 materials. That could actually be a partial safety issue because that is meant to strengthen materials which have an impact in the event of a collision. Any manufacture knows rust will occur. In fact they really only care about trying to prevent it during the duration of their warranty period for corrosion. Toyota did step it up with the frame swaps because they realized that could of potentially lost a lot of faithful Toyota buyers. Plus it was extended after big accelerator recall, so that also played a fact in them doing that. And it wouldn't take them years to fix a problem. The have contracts with the suppliers. If they make a defective product and can't get good replacement within a reasonable period they simply will allow a new supplier to fulfill an order, which they will be more than happy to. Odds are it was just a bad batch of glue, possibly some chemical failed, could be numerous things. Toyota will pull batch reports and send samples to the manufacture for analysis. I the mean time they will put that on a special attention list for further inspection and I'm sure they will stop using the batch of they haven't already ran it all. Last thing they want to do is keep running a product that is defective and will cost them more money in the long run

I posted a while back that I went to my dealer ( Salesperson) and told him about the hood issue and then went on the lot they had two DC, One Off Road and One Sport ,Popped the hood and showed him the issue .Both trucks were sold and he then had his body shop guys take both in to the shop that day. I went back the next day the off road was gone but the sport was still there and had been fixed !! My sales person told me that the first thing they would do would be to check mine ( Build Date DEC.4TH) when it came in. I also talk to the guy that restored my 69 RR and he told not to worry ,I t was and easy fix and if Toyota did not fix it and he would and Guarantee the work.
