Yeah, it's "list" price vs. "retail" for the parts. Someone always gets screwed, either way. :(

That's what the Dealer says "they" changed. Was he supposed to change more ?? Is there a Toyota corporate List of what is to be changed so we can compare ???

Google Toyota parts, 2005 Tacoma, exhaust, diagram 7 (catalytic converter). That's the part with the gaskets & clamp(s).

Not sure of technical names but everything from bottom of header to muffler was replaced. Here's some pics of the new items:

Thanks for taking those. I am still waiting for parts. Dealer hasn't called me yet. Thinking about trying a different one.

I have a 2013 4cyl Pre-runner. I had my cats replaced last year under warranty when they failed suddenly and totally blocked the exhaust. I just had them re-replaced under warranty again yesterday with the newer design. It took about an hour at the dealer. I called ahead of time to make sure they had all parts in stock and they did. They look like titanium in person-absolutely gorgeous. My truck runs the same, no difference.

Thanks Nate & Billy! :) It would have been nice if they had replaced the O2 sensor (Nate's pic 4). What bugs me is that if you had to pay it out of pocket, it's more than 10% of what I paid new...:drevil:

My service adviser said that they are supposed to replace the catalytic converter and check some nearby parts for heat damage, including some sensors, and replace them if needed.

It would be nice if they took off the sticker after installing the part.... Unless if they are not suppose to?

Just an update for anyone who still cares. What Nate posted as the parts (invoice) & pics are absolutely correct. I went in 7:02AM & I was out by 7:34AM. Took longer to drive there. Good Luck, guys! :)

Hello All, this is my very first post to this forum and couldn't resist posting about my experience today having this recall work done.

Short story is I have 2010 2.7 access cab with manual trans. I am original owner purchasing truck brand new in november of 2010. I still remember the first week having the truck I called the dealer about concerns of an exhaust rattle and a raw egg smell from exhaust. I was told don't worry it is normal. I had this rattle for a year or two then went away at some point. One thing to mention is I was never crazy about the performance such that when slowing for a rolling stop and proceeding in second would cause truck to shudder forcing a downshift to first gear (very annoying). But I learned to live with this as I figured it was like this from new so it must be nirmal. On top of this I never, and I mean never hit 18 mpg or better with highway mileage on this truck. Maybe this is normal but sticker advertised 22 mpg.

Fast forward to today, I just had recall done which included replacement of exhaust portion as pictured above with two new cats. All I can say is wow! I have way more power than I ever had from day one. I think my cat was clogged since first week of ownership. Don't get me wrong it's not a fast vehicle, but the recall definately fixed an issue I didn't realize was there. I really hope this was why I never got decent mpg. Can anyone confirm what mpg is expexted with this truck?

In any case I wanted to share my experience today as I am a very hapy tacoma owner.

Had mine done this week as well. It could just be me, but it seems overall smoother. I had a rattle that is now gone! Very pleased with the way the dealership handled it.

    Welcome to the forum!

    Mpg thread vvv
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/2-7l-mpg.117890/#post-2270998

I bought my truck used last year with 30k on it. I have never gotten better than 19 mpg, I average 17, truck is stock. I hope this fixes the mpg issue. Will be calling Toyota today to schedule the work.

    First post myself.
Mine will be going in late next week(2011 RC 4x4 auto). They are going to replace it regardless of issue or not.Plus they will be looking at the rear springs(noisy and sagging). It will be my first real experience with a Toyota dealer.Hope it goes good, unlike my experience with GM dealers.

I had a similar problem with my 2005 GMC Sierra.Poor fuel economy and rotten egg smell. That went on for quite awhile, and took it to 2 different dealers. They hooked it up to computer(no codes present),and told me nothing unusual. It also used oil(5.3 non-AFM)at about 1 qt per 1500 miles(normal per GM specs). That would probably explain the heavy soot in the tailpipe. My 1999 2.7 and current one has very little in tailpipe.Never had to add make-up oil between oil changes in either one.

Mine also seems to idle smoother, but it could just be a "placebo effect". :notsure:
Thanks for starting the thread, Peter.

On a side note, you guys might notice some smoke &/or smell coming from converter for the first 5-10 minutes of driving after install, totally normal.

Welcome to TW Eric & Scott!

If they bolted it on after the converter, then I would say yes. If they cut the flange & welded the pipe directly, problems. Just call & ask them.
