Yeah, the last gasp Nissan discounts on the Titan and Frontier were pretty good. I'd expect the Frontier this year to really sewer out on pricing.

Do you have proof that the frame coating protection materials and process on the 2016 are the exact same as previous generations that had frame rust issues? As far as I know there is no issue with the frames design or the company who manufacturers it. It's the coating material/process that failed allowing bare metal exposure to the extreme. I'm not saying they did or didn't fix the issue, but it would seem to me that if this is Toyota's biggest known issue (and a huge cost $$ to the company), then they should be able to remedy it by a process change. It doesn't mean the design failed or that the company who manufactured the parts are incapable of changing the coating process and materials.

Frontier is coming to the US market. From what I understand, the plant that makes them can't keep up with overseas production demand so they have waited to release it to the US market for now, also giving them time to let the Titan hit the market.

If the new Navara is in fact sold here as the Frontier it will likely be my next truck. If they sell it with a VQ V6, manual transmission, 4wd and the new coil rear suspension it will be right up my alley. The Australian market Navara is everything I was hoping Toyota would do with the 3rd gen Tacoma.

I would argue that is is as capable, but does not have near the aftermarket support that Toyota has. That in itself if an advantage for Toyota, but the Navara already has aftermarket bumpers and upgraded rear control arms for the new truck.

I prefer the Pro4x package to the TRD Off Road.

You get 265/75R16s with a matching spare tire and alloy. The differential gearing and speedometer are corrected to the tire size. The crawl ratio is 40:1 with the 6spd. The air splitter and mud flaps are functional and don't get in the way or look weird. The frame is fully boxed and has nothing hanging below the rails (exhaust, cross members). You can clear 285s with no lift but its even better with a leveling kit (5100s). Rear discs don't collect debris like drums.

Loads of aftermarket support if you look around.

I didn't say that they did fix the issue or that they didn't, but it's just hard to believe after replacing hundreds of thousands of truck frames that they didn't learn their lesson and revise the process. It would be truly mind boggling.

You and me, I have no clue what the hell is going on in Toyota.
I think US division lost their mind. It's not that hard to change painting process. Why they not doing is beyond me.

Hundreds of thousands? Really? Can you help me with the source of that data? Not trying to be an ass, just really curious if there were really that many.

This issue has been going on since the '90's. I graduated forestry school with a guy that had a '98 trd that was used in the woods for 5 years and close to 300k and Toyota Canada gave him $21,900 and his truck when to the junk yard, along with many many others. Now I see 2007's still for sale with recent new frames put under them, it's been close to 10 years and it's still the same old song and dance. Let's hope they have learned their lesson, this is not a cheap proposition...

First thing that pops up on google.

    1. In 2008, Toyota's infamous frame-rot fiasco on 19952004 Tacomas (about 800,000 trucks) was so bad the company had to buy many of them back, conduct extensive frame repairs, and/or extend frame-corrosion warranties by 15 years. The company never issued a recall for that problem.Oct 10, 2014
Followed by 690,000 being recalled for snapping leaf springs. The way I see it at least Toyota fixes it for free. At the age the trucks are when the frame rots, I have seen many other truck brands with rotten frames and your own your own to fix them...

The frame rust issue is unfortunate, but it would not stop me from buying a tacoma. It just means that I have to be diligent about undercoating once a year living in the northeast. In doing that it should not an issue. It's still crazy to think 100 million dollars later that Toyota hasn't learned their lesson.
