Just took home my new 2016 TRD Offroad and after looking through the 'stuff' I see I have only one of those electronic key "thingies". (Push Button start). Is this standard or did I miss something.

If only one (really..?), how much for a new one? From Toyota or other source?

    Thanks.

You should def have 2 keys, I work for a dealership. 2 keys come with all new Toyota's. The smart key fobs are around $350

Only one fob? Every one of our Toyotas came with two. You might be missing one.

I only had one key when i bought mine as well. Somebody left the other one during transport. They mailed it to the dealer and I got it a week after.

Thanks very much. I'll check with my dealer Tues when I see them again. Must be something overlooked as the dealer has been just great (Central Maine Toyota, Waterville ME). Kind of figured the keys would be expensive..:(

Keys go missing every so often, left in cars...etc. I know for our dealership we note the fact that it is missing on our delivery check sheet. So another can be ordered and programmed.

You should have two key fobs and one normal key for the tailgate. Hopefully they get it sorted out for you.

    PS.

This Tacoma is just awesome. Its my 4th Toyota pickup (1981, 1985, 2013, 2016). Just traded in a 2014 Xterra.

Been following all the 'news' and comments here since the 2016 came out in Sept. Gotta say some of the negatives I have read just dont seem to be the case (at least for me).

    1. Not a powerhouse, but good power and at least equal to my 4.0 Xterra and most other V6's I've driven. Tranny is smoother than the Xterra, with better gearing.
    2. Grill not my favorite, but actually quite handsome in person.
    3. I seen complaints on the seat being too low. I am 5'7" and think its just right.
    4. Manual mode 5th gear with 'ECT' gives great response. I dont drive highways much (rural Maine, more gravel roads than tar...;)

Bottom line, I think its an absolutely fantastic vehicle.

Watch for the hood vibrations, which seems to affect most 2016s without hood scoop.

^ Is that hood vibrations or good vibrations.... (kidding). Thanks for the tip. Will check more closely, but haven't noticed that yet. Will check the under-hood rib glue and keep an eye on it...

I got 2 fobs with mine. No hood vibration or any problems with mine .... 5700 miles.

There are a few with hood vibrations, but that is normal when reaching 88 mph and the flux capacitor cuts in ...

Well, of course, and that's only for the aftermarket flux capacitor. There's no vibe on the factory install.

Hey OP, you should have been given 2 key fobs and 1 valet key. Contact the salesperson or manager who sold you the truck about the missing keys.

And just ignore those negative nancies. They're only criticizing the 3rd gen until their 2nd gen are completely rusted out and have no choice but to upgrade and join the rest of the civilize world :D

There is no valet key on the Tacoma that Ive seen. The only other one you get is the tailgate key if you have a push button start

My bad. I meant to say that typically you'd receive 2+1 keys when buying new. But the OP receiving only 1 key fob means that someone forgot or misplaced the other keys. Shit happens but the dealership should follow up and make it right.

3rd gen's don't come with a valet key because they know you cannot afford that lifestyle after you purchase the truck

Haha, true (One of the reasons I'm driving a 4 cylinder access cab and not the bad boy TRD Off-road long bed 4x4). Yeah the dealership is on the hook for the second key. I know for us at our dealership its a huge issue. If someone lives out of town it can be a big mess too because we have to have the vehicle to program the new key and a local dealership dosent always want to help out if you sold them the vehicle and they didnt.
