Hey yall. Having trouble deciding between the coild/bilstein lift by head strong which include bilstein 5100s, add a leaf, diff drop and light UCAs. $588.00, provides 3'' of lift.

Or the bilstein 6112s, add a leaf, no diff drop, light UCAs. $1,048.00, provides 2.5''.

    Questions
    1. the 6112s are more expencive but i get less lift?
    2. what will th 6112s provide that the 5100s can't?
    3. will i need to extend my break lines and ABS?
    4. 6112s dont come with a diff drop y?
    5. anyother options i should look for? ( 500-1,500 price range, goal is to level and lift 2.5-3.0'', i am personally going to install so simplicity is key, looking to put 285s underneath.
    6. dont really know how to ask this one but would 2.5-3.0'' add stress to my UCAs and ball joints? there would be no down travle correct?

As i am sure you can all see i dont really know much on the subject so please keep answers some what simple.

I dont off road all the time but the lift will need to be capiable for small river crossings, medium trails ect.

    1. The 5100's and 6112's have the same ring settings, but the 6112 are more "beefy" and wider.
    2. From what I hear....a better all around shock for going off road.
    3. Depends on the setting. If you go up to 2.5-3" you may want to be isn't necessarily needed.
    4. Having a diff drop is a very touchy subject on TW. 95% of the people do not go with one because it is a waste of money and can actually hurt more than help.
    5. OME makes a good suspension for the front for a decent price. 90000 series with 884, 885, or 887 springs depending on the height you want. The 887 might be what you want to go with if you are looking for a 2.5-3 inch front lift.
    6. YES MOST CERTAINLY! It is HIGHLY recommended to get an aftermarket UCA to correct the alignment issues you will have at a 3" lift. Most of the aftermarket UCA's have different beefer ball joints. A good all around one that a lot of people have for a good price is Light Racing UCA's, they will run you about $400. Total Cho as and Camburg make a more robust one for around $700.

IMO, the second set up with 6112's, an AAL, LR UCA's, and no diff drop is your better choice. The 6112's have ring settings for height adjustment. I believe that at the highest ring settings g it will give you a 2.5 inch lift after it settles.

Buy either one, you'll enjoy which ever one you decide on.

Or you could buy 5100's for the front and 6112's for the rear if you want to be unique :notsure:

Thanks a lot this really helped. I also started looking at the cruiseroutfitters.com ultimate light kit
    Sleeoffroad.com tacoma 3inch suspension lift
Or possibly putting it together my self meaning build my own lift KIT.

If you are serious about offroad performance I would go for the 6112's or better. The 5100's are a great shock for someone looking to lift their truck, but they are not all that brilliant in the dirt IMO.

Both of those websites pretty much offer the same things but at crazy high prices. Do yourself a favor. Call Marie at headstrong off road and she will answer any questions you have, build a kit for you within your budget, educate you and get you a great price.
