    My two main carries.
    I love the ZT.
The blue is a nice one we got at work. I carry it when I'm in the Helicopter for the seatbelt cutter and the deep pocket clip.

I don't have Benchmade or Spyderco knives only because of price. But I have a few Kershaw leeks and I love them. But recently this Rat Model 2 had been my favorite carry. For some reason I just really like it.

The Rat 2 is a great knife made even better by it's lower price.

Why are you using a cutting edge to get sparks off of a fire steel?

This is a special one I got from my Grandad, who will be 92 this month. He and my Nan were in the Royal Airforce in England in WWII, where he was a navigator on a Lancaster bomber. He gave me this British fighting knife!tmp_2015-12-06 21.53.58-917346169.jpg tmp_2015-12-06 21.53.26-1344053208.jpg tmp_2015-12-06 21.45.562095108634.jpg

    Beautiful.

Make sure you're conditioning that leather and keeping it maintained.

Normally, I'd never do it. I always hit the flint with the back of the blade anyways.
I have a habit of making it a point to use all my survival gear when I camp so the day I need it I won't be trying to learn the instructions all confused and realize half my stock is stale.
sometimes if your tinder isn't quite dry enough or it's windy or both, the little flakes of magnesium you get by scraping the back edge of the blade just don't catch. Grinding off some big shavings with the blade is about the only way to get a fire lit.
You lose your edge doing it but sleep well with a fire.
It's also a good torture test to compare steels. Some will chip some will roll and some dull in a couple of scrapes where others are mostly undamaged. My Benchmade held up way better than I thought it would.

On the knife handle as well. When the stacked leather handles dry out they shrink and get brittle (and break).

Kind of a knife (not really)

War hammer that I am working on

H1150 stainless head and 6061 aluminum handle

Handle has to be turned down more (it's 1.25" now, gonna bring it to 1") then knurl it and add some sort of pommel
