My truck arrived and I picked it up. I love it.

I want to get the 17" TRD rims and go up one size for the tires to: 265/70/17. I've seen many people do this on their 2016, so I know it fits and it looks great.

Do you guys usually get a set of 5 tires? If yes, does the larger tire fit under the bed? If no, how long can you drive with tires that are not the same size?

I would not drive around with a spare that was not the same size as all my other tires.

That's why I don't own any cars. That on top of 10,000 other reasons.

I know that with the doughnut tires you should not exceed about 50mph or go farther than about 10-20 miles. Probably safe to apply the same rules here.

I just picked up the 17" TRD rims and new 275/70/17 KO2 tires - and I got 5 of them. I think the new spare will fit underneath, but not 100% sure - I'm still waiting on my truck to get here (any day now).

Thanks guys. Yeah after thinking about it... I'll go with a set of 5. It's only 25% more expensive :)

I have a 265/75/16 spare (same diameter) and it JUST squeaks in under the truck. I have a 2nd Gen, but I doubt they made any changes to that area of the truck...

I'd not bother unless you're going to rotate it in with the others as part of the rotation schedule.

Won't hurt anything to run a spare thats off by that small a difference. If you're really in a situation where you're gonna run your spare for a thousand or more miles before you can swap it out - just put it on the front to avoid extra wear on the rear differential. Your VSC light will come on, but it won't hurt anything.

    two cents, adjusted for inflation.

Toyota offers 2 years of roadside assistance. I'll wait for that to expire and then think about getting a spare to match. What's the biggest size spare that will fit?

I would skip the 5th tire. It is a spare to use on an "as needed" basis. Buy 5100 shocks instead of the 5th tire.

Buy 4 new tires for the road, go to a local tire shop and buy a used tire in a matching size spare for cheap. This way if you need to run the spare everything will be fine and you won't have an expensive upgraded tire rotting away under the truck

I'd get four tires. If the spare is just there for emergencies, you're fine. Don't drive hundreds of miles. The idea above to get a used tire for the spare is a good one and I did exactly that from Americas Tire. I asked and they just gave me one for another vehicle.

I went with the used tire on a new 5th rim to match my others, but thats becuase my spare was a 215 70 15 and I have 245 75 16s now. Wanted to avoid the gimpy leg situation should it arise.

You shouldn't use the Locker with two different sized wheels/tires

Can anyone confirm if a 285/70-17 will fit in the stock spare tire location? I'd about to invest in a lift and would like to have a like size spare.
