New/different step bars? or no step bars?

I just ripped the rear passenger step clean off. Zero damage or scraping anywher on the truck or undercarraige. I was wondering it just save me from some real damage or simply got in the way creasting a hill that would have otherwise been no problem.

I do not have a lift and I am a tall guy. I don't need, nor use the bars getting in and out. I am thinking the only redeeming quality they might have is to protect the truck. If that is the case, there are probably better options out there.

Or I can just have it welded back on. it was pretty clean. The front mounting piece stayed with the truck and just needs a little bending back to correct angle. The rear mounting piece came off with the step.

Forgive me, I am new. I came from a Tundra that could not go where a Tacoma can go.

I was also just looking at the aluminum, it looks cheap and it all cam apart at the welds. So I will probably forget repairing them

Agree with the sliders for off road, the other crap is just for looks and gets tore up pretty easy.

Any recommendations? I am not an frequent off-roader but I am not afraid to go up, over and through the gnarly stuff. What brand will best protect my truck.

Well, let me take that back. When I had the Tundra I was not a frequent off-roader because it did not fit anywhere. Now that I have the Taco, I find myself looking for opportunities.

Check these. SOS Concepts Sliders . They are nice and subtle, but offer great protection. I know they are available for the DCSB, and will soon be for the DCLB (sometime after the 19th). They will be going on my truck after that.

good luck with that question, but looks like you are from the rockies, so I would suggest the kickouts with whatever you get. a lot of companies are starting to make them for 2016's

These sure look nice but lead time is gonna be a deal killer for me.

On another note, these little Tacomas are amazing off-road. I LOVED my '14 Tundra but my wife just got a '16 4Runner, giving us plenty of room for the dogs, we just built a house here (we ain't going anywhere) and there are endless trails in SE Idaho. I got sick and tired of not being able to explore them. That Tundra was just too ginormous to get anywhere. Sure, I miss the brute power and size (when I had passengers) but this Taco is growing on me fast.

I also got the premium tech package so it has way more options than the Tundra (not quite as sweet as the 4Runner though) but the 4Runner is a garage queen. My wife always wanted one (since high school) so now she has one. Its a darn nice SUV too.

Anyway, I digress. I am just noticing that the Tacoma's off-road prowess is apt to get one in some deep excrement sooner rather than later lol. Its also fun know that we have not one, but two vehicles that are capable of going almost anywhere, certainly in terms if where any other vehicles can take you, The only other contenders in my mind are the good ole' Jeep (crazy fun and unstoppable in deep sand) and the FJ.

So I guess I should back off the light bars and secondary GoPro cameras and start beefing this rig up.

check lead times, shipping, call and talk to the people, then go with whoever seems to treat you the best. You'll find they are all over place, regardless what "people" may say in here. I called around and quite a few seemed like they could care less if you buy from them or not. I think some of that has probably got to do with their work load or maybe just having a bad day, but you expect to be treated good if you are giving them your money
Given your location, I'd go with pelfybilt

Just out of curiosity, you mentioned that brand based on my location. Is that because you are familiar with the terrain?

Speaking of location, ya know what's weird? There seems to be almost no real custom truck shops here, which is weird because everyone drives 4x4 vehicles. Even the rich folks, they dont buy beemers and caddys, they buy F-350 King Ranch Larriats and 1794 Tundras lol. Back in North Carolina (I lived there for several years) there was a truck place on every street you drove down. It used to crack me up seeing people put lifts, tires, suspension and so on; on their 2WD tucks lol lol. Dang, it was hard to even find a 4x4 Tundra when I bought my Tundra.

I am originally from NY and people simply do not by 2WD trucks (maybe work trucks) in NY. In NC, the lion's share are 2WD. I had to stop several sales folks, look them in the eye, and ask them " what part of me not buying a 2WD truck are you not understanding? ". They just don't get it down there.

I say that because of shipping. Like if you went SOS concepts, it will be coming fro the east coast, so it will cost more than getting it from a west coast company. But you never know? One of them might work you a deal

I'm on the west coast and still went with SOS because I liked Eddy's product.

We currently advertise 8 weeks only because our surge in black Friday sales. Typical lead time is 2-3 weeks. Once we get caught back up things should go back to normal.

Hey man CBI off-road is in Idaho Falls! You should check there if you're concerned with saving $$ on shipping or lead times. They do sliders and bumpers and skids and all that jazz
