Hey guys I'm in the process of building a new home. My question is in regards to the framing of the home and the structural strength of the house itself compared to another house across the street. My question is the builders doing my house have set the trusses or 2x6s about 16in or 18in apart and the house across the street, different builders but same community and their trusses are set closer together then mine. I'm worried the strength is weaker. Is there any advantage or disadvantage I should be concerned about? I realize it seems petty but it's my first brand new home from scratch. Any help will be appreciated as I go in for my 4 way all through tomorrow afternoon. Here is a pic of one wall in my house.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1449465920.608298.jpg

Here in the upper midwest (northern Il & Wi ) 16in on center is the norm, if you look at a good tape measure it will be marked for that.

16 inch is normal, if you have concerns, I would suggest looking up the framing codes in your area and making the measurments yourself to check.

Thanks guys, I'm within code for the area I'm just curious as to why the house next to me got closer trusses then me. I didn't ever think something like this would be a concern lol

I'd be really surprised if your neighbors' trusses are actually less than 16" oc.........
commercially available subfloor is usually marked for 16", 19.2", and 24" layoff

its hard to say codes usually very from state , county , and time built. yours seems good that is normal framing standards. is the other house brand new as well? or is it a remodel?
Only time i have seen weird framing was with a 2 story house that had a "silent floor" framing layout

16 on center is code here, but I'm in VA. Not sure if it may be different elsewhere, although I wouldn't think so.

I would rather have an overbuilt home, than an underbuilt home.

Maybe yours are 19.2" what with the ibeams, making your neighbor's (at 16") look closer.
To me, however, it looks like your studs have the same spacing as your joists/trusses which would likely make it 16" oc

I'm thinking the same as well that my home is sitting at 19.2" spacing and the other house is at 16' I just don't understand why I guess is my concern. I do know Im going to have blown in insulation R-23 and the other house will have the standard roll insulation R-19 so I don't know if that has anything to do with it as I upgraded my insulation in whole home.

Ask the builders about it first, they might be able to give you an answer you're happy with.

Define what you mean by "truss".

    Also what is your span?

If your I-Joists are "Deeper" than your neighbors that could be why they are spaced farther apart, if they are? Also , the Span( distance) between the Exterior Bearing wall & Interior Bearing walls may be shorter than the neighbors which would allow for being farther apart. . You can check the I-Joist Span Tables to confirm ALL of these questions/ concerns

by "trusses" are you talking about the floor joists or the walls? Its really pointless for either one to be spaced closer than 16"...that's pretty standard everywhere.

My walls are 9ft tall and the beams or truss are 2x6s probably with a span of 19.2" apart, the neighbors wall is 8ft tall also with 2x6s but clearly spaced closer together probably 16" for more rigid construction.

I'm talking about the 2x6s in the walls being farther apart then my neighbors walls.

Wouldn't make sense to change framing for an entire house just to make the insulation install easier. You need to ask your builder.

    Ok
OK, are all of your walls the same spacing? Some homes will have 16" OC for exterior/structural walls, and then have a larger spacing for interior walls. This cuts cost. Your neighbor may have paid extra to have 16" OC throughout his house.

It may also be OK to have exterior walls spaced further apart than 16" OC...that depends on local codes. Your builder will be able to tell you without a doubt the reasoning for the spacings.
