Uh oh. Don't tell BlueT that his badass 20 mpg Tundra could have rust issues too!

If you are in environment that is not great for rust all you need to do is what @Dagosa is doing. (Spray frame with motor oil)

Why you think I am going back to Nissan?

My 5 year old Nissan chassis looks new.

I don't care about surface rust, it happens. What pissed me off was bolts and nutserts shearing when I worked on it and heavy scale in areas I couldn't reach. The cab floor was blistering in a few areas by the time I sold it. This was an 06 SR5, the already weak motor mounts and frame surrounding them were a nice shade of dorito orange.

I use fluid film. My frame doesn't show any signs of rust as of yet, but I'm only 2 years in.

This is what bugs me. Nissan can make frames that look like New Many years later, but Toyota can't.
Same with various bolts. My calipers on Tacoma look like they were submerged in Atlantic along side of Titanic.

I painted my first frame with the many things including the same paint that our DOT uses on bridges.
Well that did not help much.
Current 2005-2008 trucks frame Replacement end in March 2016, so far nothing for 2009+ Trucks.

Same. To be honest there aren't holes starting in any newer frames around here so I doubt I have anything to be worried about at this time. It sounds like manufacturing was moved by the supplier for the frames so the problem may not follow the move.

Ha ha that's the trick. My frame looked excellent, I was worry they won't replace it, because all the painting I did.
Than Toyota guy went and hit it with hammer, and hammer went inside the frame like through cardboard. So much crawling under the truck to paint that shit, all gone in a second.
Turns out my awesome paint was holding my frame. :D

Don't worry, I'll report back if my frame fails eventually lol.

Till then I'm not worried. Honestly, if at 200k my truck frame goes bad and Toyota offers to replace it, that's no skin off my back. I'd still rather have it over an untested (in North America) powerplant. Either way I'm sure I'm looking at several good years of use on and off road without issue.

I certainly did not want to read this.....my 2010 is most certainly affected - I read that here and every time I look under my truck.

Is there anything I can do after the rust has set in?

    Trade it for a DEEZUL.

Just kidding around, but if the frame is rusting inside the box portion you can "inject" fluid film inside with a pressurized wand. It won't heal the damage, but it will stop it at the point it's currently at.

Thanks for response. So I assume the only way to do this is go through a professional service (e.g. Krown Rust Control) to get this done - esp. the pressurized wand.

    Hold on to that thought.
Its very unlikely Toyota will replace your frame or anybody else with trucks after 2009+ check this out and focus on quote. Toyota already is tryign to weasel out and back stab owners.

    http://www.law360.com/articles/647342/1st-of-its-kind-ark-ruling-limits-extent-of-auto-warranties
Frame has 3 year/36000 miles warranty only.
Whats bad is once your frame fails my resale value will go down because KBB algorithm does not include question (was your frame replaced by Toyota)
Frames will fail, look at the picture I posted or the guy posted from the car show of 2016 Tacoma. When you have exposed metal it will rust.
The only people who will get their money back are Toyota employees who bought those trucks at the discount. Everybody else will have to most likely take loss on it.

Everybody will take a loss you say? What about the folks that live on the West coast where we see little to no salt on the roads year round? You think all Tacoma owners live in the N/NE with salt on the roads 2-4 months out of the year?

Pretty much, unless you buy a few gallons of fluid film and run it through a hand pump chemical sprayer.

You are making a lot of assumptions there. Anyways, I'm going to leave this alone. Continue being the Toyota boogie man. I hope it makes your heart 2 sizes bigger.

Nice, so I am the bad guy because I can read...

Toyota does not have to replace a single frame on 2009+ truck and nobody can make them anymore......

What about those Tacomas that aren't normally in those areas that road trip to visit family and friends in the rust belt during those months? They get caught up with the salted roads if it snows.

I was the person who took those photos of the 2016 Tacoma with the exposed metal on the frame at the car show. And it was disheartening what I saw.

I waited 2 years to see if this generation would fix Gen2's issues and it appears it's going to be the same.

I love Toyotas but there is a huge gap in quality between the American/Mexican and Japanese made vehicles. The 2016 4Runner and 2016 Land Cruiser at the car show had no exposed metal.

I didn't call you a bad guy, but you have to admit you are making a lot of assumptions. All that court case says is that Toyota was never legally obligated to replace the frames. You can look at that either as a good or bad sign that they will continue doing it as needed in the future.

It's not worth talking about anymore at this point because it's an old argument about a future neither of us can see. Come back in 5 years. Then we can talk about whether my truck has collapsed the frame or not.

PS I just ordered a new 2016 F150 to replace my Ram 2500. If you want to bag on a truck, there is a target that's impossible to miss. The Ram is just a shit show.
