I am having a hard time getting a dealer to let me place an order. I understand that they want to sell what they have on their lot today and not 12 weeks from now. Any adivce?

They are not the only Toyota dealer out there. They have to earn your money, and it sounds like they don´t want to. Go to another one that will.

Sounds like he's on a bit of a power trip. At least you could have fun with it:
    1) Go to local Chevy/GMC dealership, find Colorado/Canyon that fits your requirements the closest (don't worry, they have plenty of these on the lots.)
    2) Arrange a solo test drive.
    3) Drive to your Toyota dealer, park right up in front of God and everyone.
    4) Tell your salesman if he doesn't let you order the Tacoma you want, you're just going to buy the truck you drove up there.

If he still doesn't want to let you order, then you probably didn't want to deal with that dealership anyway.

I got calls into other dealers right now. It looks like it is going to be hard to get more than $500-700 off of MSRP for a DCLB OR 4x4.

Try using the AAA discount. It may be anyplace from $400-$600 above invoice (A lot more than $700 off MSRP), depending on your location. If you are not a AAA member, it's only like $50/year. Pays for itself right away when you buy the truck.

Costco also has a discount, just not as much; plus, the Costco membership is a lot more.

I just placed my order for a Access Cab TRD Sport MT 4x4 (another rare build). No trouble at all, aside from the waiting..... Several other dealers I visited prior to going through AAA were sticking to MSRP, MSRP +$1,000, and MSRP -$350; then they all said they would match the MSRP -$350 when I told them I had been offered that "deal".

Cast a W I D E net. I shop from Florida to Massachusetts to Tennessee and Georgia...Spirit Airlines is my friend $89 one way almost everywhere and dealers WILL drive 50 miles to pick me up at the airport. It's unusual that I was able to get a great deal in my own backyard on the Taco...But not the wife's CRV or my Miata which was a Florida flight and drive back.

Keep in mind, toyota dealers don't "order" a truck like the domestics do. They find a truck that comes closest to your preference.
ToMoCo builds trucks. Ships them to regional "ports". And dealers take delivery from the ports according to their allocation.
Placing a customer factory order does not happen.

Yes BroBrady, go to another dealer, maybe the salesman/dealership felt like they needed an immediate sale that day, but it shouldn't be hard to find a dealership that will place an order for you, it is also advantageous for them to take your order as long as they can wait for the commission.

Hey Dakota, I just placed an order for the same build (7559) last week! Ordered mine in Inferno, don't think I'll be seeing a lot of those on the road with me!!

That´s good news OP. Now you know you are working with a dealership that values your business. Congrats.

It depends when the dealer puts in your order. They can only request so many trucks each allocation period so they may not submit yours if they have other orders. It really depends on how busy your dealer is with Tacomas

Where you located? My local dealership just got an MGM 7568 in (dclb 4x4 trd or) and they already told me they'd do $1000 off msrp.

Definitely go see another dealer. There are lots of them that really want to work with you to get you what you want. I went to the Toyota dealer in my town and the guy just dicked me around, wanted me to wait until February 16th and then wasn't sure he could get it for me. Didn't want to give me a value on my trade in.....going to give you less for you trade in in two months yada yada yada bs crap.

I ended up driving about 100 miles north. Found the truck I wanted but in a different color. The guy asked me if I was sure I wanted it since it wasn't my color. Said he could have the right color for me in about four weeks. Didn't want to wait and took the silver one. Sure enough, I check their site and they already have the color I was looking for.

I told him next August I will return, order the one I want in black. He said no problem. He'd get it done for me.

Not sure why some dealers want to jack people around for something that costs $30-40K.

    Stupid.

When I went looking in October, I contacted 6 dealers. One answered and called me back within minutes. The others played games. The one dealer that was prompt asked me what truck I wanted and traded with another dealer right away. They wanted and got my business.

Some dealers are lazy and maybe they also have lazy customers who just stay with them.

But best way is to get competitive offers and go with the best one.

I drove 3 hours out of town to get mine. And many others have gone further.
