Does anyone here know if the prior cheap "MINI VCI for TOYOTA TIS Techstream Diagnostic Cable & Software" is compatible with the 2016? And if so what setting adjustments are available

you will need the current version to interface with the 2016 Tacoma.

i think its 10.20.31 if i remember correctly on my version when i did the upgrade from my old 2014 install (8.xx.xx) for when i connected to my 2014 4runner when i first bought it. haven't connected it since then.

once i setup everything, never needed to use techstream again.

Hey NoDak, I remember you from T4R. The latest version I can find is V10.00.028, where could I obtain the latest version you mentioned and is this confirmed to work on 2016? Is it the same plug as our 4R, I see now they list a 16pin and 22pin. I have not used mine in three years after setting my initial changes on my 4R either.

16 tacoma uses any obd2 plug/cable. I have an xhorse cable for personal use, but dealership techstreams are still using the same cable as always.

i was guessing at the version number, i am sure its 10.xx.xx.

i have connected it to the 2016 since i was trying to program my 2014 4runner fob to the 2016 PTS. didn't want to carry around 2 fobs, but alas, the Tacoma will not recognize the 2014 fob. tried the new way and the classic way and nothing.

outside of that the main things i need to program are already in the driver settings menu as far as door un/locking, lights etc.

the seatbelt chime is a non issue since everyone buckles up, so it never really chimes very long or at all.

its the same obd2 port as before, nothing has changed.

I will plug mine in tonight and see if it needs an update or not. But since it hasn't been used in a few years I don't see how 2016 will be in the drop list, or did you just pick a prior year and it worked? Any hold down unlock button fob and open all windows options?

My personal laptop has techstream 10.00.028. It has 2016 in the drop down menu. It connected to my 16 Tacoma but would not auto recognize nor auto populate the model/year/engine. I had to manually select it. Also, 2GR-FKS was not in the engine list, it had 1TR or 7GR-FKS. But it connected.

I was able to customize any settings I wanted, and as you can see, mileage popped up correctly.

Thanks for the info, I will try to download and update then prior to plugging it in. Hopefully the update doesn't mess it up to much, I know I had a heck of a time getting the program initially to finally work, but after I got it going worked perfect.

I'm new to Toyota's so apologize if this is a stupid question, but would you guys mind linking to the proper hardware you need to buy on Amazon or other site?

I see a few different items listed when I search tech stream on Amazon.

Also, where do you download the latest techstream software from?

where can you get this for a decent price?
I tried googling it, only one I can ever find is direct from tech stream and they want over $1000 and its only for a year.
No aftermarket options come up other than standard OBD2 scanners which can't go into settings like TIS

I'm used to the VW program, Rosstech. Actually aftermarket that VW uses since their factory made software is shit. Ross tech is 100000x better.

The software is firmware for your laptop to recognize the cable, not the techstream software. The mongoose comes with firmware too.

So how do you get the techstream software?

Another member told me about the online service manuals available from:

    https://techinfo.toyota.com/techInfoPortal/appmanager/t3/ti?_nfpb=true&_pageLabel=ti_home_page

I see if you pay for a 2 day subscription for professional diagnostic you can get the techstream software....does that mean you only have to pay once and get the software forever? Or do you only have 2 day access to the software?

    Anyone know?

I also saw Toyota has a free version of the techstream, called tech stream lite.....is that what you guys are using?

Thanks for the info, appreciate it.
