I'm having the time of my life trying to get my new tires not to rub. I've got the cab mount chopped, have trimmed the shit out of my fender and fender skirt and still no dice.

I was driving home last night and my truck understeered like a SOB and I damn near almost wrecked the thing.

Is it caster or camber that moves the wheel forward in the wheel well, and could moving the tires forward help with understeering? Thanks as always!

Caster. Tell the shop to max it out, or just do it yourself. The return to center won't be as good, but you'll get better turn in and with traction control off will make the truck a little tail happy, but not bad. It will also be much safer in the dirt, you won't be blowing through corners and can drift a little.

Post your post-alignment sheet or numbers. @username is dead on. Max the caster out.

I appreciate the help gentlemen! I would adjust myself but I don't have the tools.

So when I take it to the shop, should I have them max out the castor from the UCA? I'm guessing my first question should be "are you familiar enough with an adjustable UCA to do it" if that's what you all suggest.

And maxing it out, will that correct the understeer? And I'd rather not have the backend fish tailing or oversteering as that seems a bit more dangerous.

There is no adjustment on a factory UCA or aftermarket UCA's except with Light Racing. You adjust the caster by manipulating the camber eccentrics. As for tools...you need like 4 tools and a calculator. https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-do-an-alignment-at-home.252256/

Understeer can be caused by numerous issues. Toe alignment, tire pressure, scrub radius, KPI, sway bar removal, shitty tires, driving it like a car....to name a few. That's why I asked for your alignment sheet.

I hear ya on all of the understeer issues as I was aware it could be a number of things. I don't have the original printout, but I know they were close to 0* on both camber and toe. Castor I asked that they set at +3

I have my Dynapro's at 39 PSI and they're brand new. My sway bar is still on. I was driving pretty slow...

I sincerely doubt you got +3 caster with factory UCA's and 885's. Speculation is impossible. I can only help with the info given.
And 39 psi is too much IMO for these trucks. Keep in mind there is no rear sway bar from the factory.

That helps. But seriously, without an alignment sheet I'm going to be shooting in the dark.

Not sure if my tire shop will have them on file. I actually had my initial alignment done after I installed the lift with @ckeene9 with the original factory tires on. Haven't had one done since I went up in tire size. I was more or less going to try and go into the shop with some direction on what I wanted done, but I realize that is easier said than done without my alignment numbers from the last time I went in.

Side note - I took it to the Toyota dealership for the 15000 mile service and the shop manager told me I needed more lift on my truck and that it wasn't an alignment issue. I actually laughed in his face and asked for my keys.

So 17x8 3.5 BS -25 offset and a 285/75/16. The perfect recipe for rub.

You need a good alignment guy that can take instructions. That link I posted is your best bet. If you rub after that a hammer is the only thing that's going to help you without swapping tires or wheels.

Don't think he was asking about rubbing aside from the title. :notsure:
