Finals are killing me, but I just got some new wheels and tires on today, so that helped "scratch the itch"

Amen to that, half the time I'm in our library "studying" I'm actually appreciating the coveted yoga pant butts.

We have finals coming up in January, but I'm the teacher so all the work goes into the finals long before final's season. We have been drafting our finals for a few weeks now. We don't have time to grade exams at the end of the semesters so we have to write the exams, create answer selections, and then manually input every question and answer set into a district program that is very slow and useless. And it's all gotta be proofed several times so my wait for the Tacoma is taken up partly by that. It's build date is December 11 LOLWOOT

Thank you for your "service" Teaching today can be a war game.....I don't know how anyone would want to put themselves in that place where students have all the power and know the laws.

Good observation. We teach in a very nice area where students know the laws. They know they can leave for the restroom because it's a liability if we don't let them go. They know a lot of things but you just deal with things as they come up. Set routines, establish a classroom code, make jokes, laugh, have fun, learn then teach, help each other, talk through hard and troubling times, be the parent, console the students, meet with parents, give advice, make up advice, decide when to make hard decisions that could impact the future of the child and thus humanity....

    all in a day's work

I love it when my professors are humorous. I learn a lot better in their classes when compared to other professors who make their classroom like a prison. If you can crack jokes within a 3 hour lecture, you betcha I'll give you my ears for the whole 3 hour lecture.

So, I'm curious... does the liability thing about going to the restroom apply at a private school?

Finals may suck, but college is so much better than the "real" world. I would give anything to go back and I have only been out of college for 6 months.

I was supposed to get mine as a grad school gift (from my wife ;)) and it was not supposed to arrive before Dec. Well, it arrived about a month and a half early, so I could focus on finals properly. Last final ever last Fri. Now I can focus on the truck a bit (and everything else not-school).

Will take the "real world" any day over school. Having spent 20+ years in working world (blue collar and the cleaner one) I will take a nice paycheck and no homework/tests all day long over school and I really liked the learning part.

"What are you doing this evening/weekend?"
"Umm... homework and studying for finals"
    "Sounds awesome"

I just miss the free time school provided. Last semester resulted in 3 actual classes, one of which was online. Left me with 5 days a week to ski to my hearts content....

The paycheck is one thing I do enjoy though :amen:

Understandable. I never really had circumstances where free time AND money to burn happened at the same time except in the working world, so my college exp was pretty mundane.

I make so many jokes that the students kind of get tired of it. I can't make great jokes because most of them aren't very appropriate or don't fit, but the jokes I make are usually corny or play on words. Like I just made a joke in Calculus where the first answer was 0 and then we got 2/3 for the next answer. I pointed at the zero and said zero isn't very fun but at least 2/3 is a Real Number.... a pause... then three of them laughed. I do what I can. I have a few really good ones for each topic. Usually they come and go with popular music, memes, or fads. Like when we complete the square.... "I've got a blank space, baby, and I'll write bee squared over 2..." to Taylor Swift's Blank Space song

YES. If you demand a student stays in class and cannot use the restroom, what happens when their bladder bursts or when they get a UTI? We are given charge of the students while they are on campus. We make decisions for them and are responsible for their care and protection. Teachers and Administrators are given different rules for what they can do and what parts of charge they cover for the student, but we all perform a role.

yeah, I don't miss the college life. I went to a state university with very little campus life and it wasn't that much fun on campus. I had a job in the math department so it was fun to be around everyone there but I was making beans and couldn't do much in my free time. As a teacher, I have homework and what not, but at least I'm getting a salary for the work I do.... and the Credential Program SSSSUUUUCCCKKKKKSSSSS

Yeah, it makes sense.. wish I had known this a few years ago although I don't think I would have done anything different. All the way from pre-k to 12th grade I had to ask to use the restroom and was denied plenty of times. We had to ask to leave the classroom for any reason and the answer was often "no". Was kind of strange when I got to college and could do whatever I wanted, whenever I wanted. Can't imagine going back now.

EDIT: and on topic I am studying for my last college final right now. It's tomorrow at 12. Graduating next week.

Sometimes I feel that way but then I remember that our memories tend to focus on all of the good times we had in college and not so much on the days and nights cramming for tests, doing homework, writing papers, eating top ramen, scrounging up change for Taco Bell or being broke in general.

I'm glad I'm done with finals now. Time to relax and dream about the truck
