I have been hinting towards the Subaru and even tried talking her into the boosted XT forester as it comes VERY well equipped.
Its the same money as the non boosted one we are looking at but she doesn't want to pay for 91+
I even pointed out that it would still be less $ than stuffing the Taco with reg.
Owners I have talked to and trust say Forester gets better than the posted 32hwy mpg. I saw the dash of an Outback showing an avg. of 42 mpg over the 30,000 miles that were on the ODO but they are a little more arrow I think.
I like the Forester over the Outback myself and she seems to agree in function but likes the Outback lines more.
She and I don't share vehicles much although that might change if she gets a Forester and she really does love the Tacoma. Other than the mpg. what's not to love?

Today she reported from work that several multiple car accidents including a totaled roll over truck. Some were still waiting on any assistance and yet her old RWD sled arrived safe and on time. She's got skills (and common sense)

I switched from a civic si that took premium gas to the Tacoma. With how small my gas tank was on the civic, I could buy two extra gallons of gas for the cost of regular. The Tacoma takes an extra 8 ish gallons.

+1 on the Forester or Subaru in general. You won't find a better AWD especially when you throw on some Blizzaks. I can't say enough about how much I enjoy ours and I opt'd non boosted as well for the gas reasons. If you want a sportier Subaru buy the WRX or stay regular in my opinion. The Crosstrek is a really nice mix between the Forester and Outback I find. However, having the Forester (I have an 09) which is rated to tow and does it decently for a small trailer and dirt bike I am a bit biased. Over all function for daily life it works really well and when the snow falls it shins like no other AWD. I just got ride of a Audi A4 quattro and I still say the Subaru AWD is miles ahead of the Audi.

    Update on Captain Ameritruck:

So Toyota in their infinite wisdom has dropped the tonneau cover for all long beds. Supplier quality and quantity issue. I checked my build, and the truck is due to the port between 5 and 10 December...and the TC code had dropped off. WTAF? Called my guy, he echoed the sentiment - my October build sheet had TC on it but the one cut today did not. Toyota removed it.

So...who's got the best price on a bakflip?

Don't have a price on the back flip but I got an extang solid fold 2.0 for my long bed for 720. Guy at Auto Anything took 100 bucks off just like that for me.

BTW- to the person who said Subaru isn't known for their gas mileage.... Wife's Forester gets 28-30 mpgs every tank in mixed driving, and she doesn't baby it.

Hi guys. I just created a membership here when I traded my 2013 for a 2016. I'm rolling through the break in period now (truck has 150 miles on it). I really love it. I honestly feel like it's a huge improvement over the 2nd gen. I don't have the driveline vibration, the new features are impressing me more and more every day, and over all, I think this is the best looking Tacoma yet.

I just have a couple questions regarding break in. I hear that fuel economy and power seem to peak post break-in period. Has anybody here completed the break in period and really just put the pedal to the floor with these bad boys yet? My 2013 Tacoma left my jaw dropped coming from a Honda CRV. Once, I leaned against the traction control button on my 2013 and didn't realize it until the truck went sideways on me. (Yeah I'm that dense, but it was a hell of a show for everyone else). I read Demello's review on how the power was "surprising" but he didn't really get into great detail. Can it break loose? Will it startle the girl in the passenger seat? (My mom got scared when I punched it to pass a truck with my 2nd gen.) I've had 2 trucks before I made the switch to Toyota: an 04 5 cyl Colorado (what a joke that was), and an 89 S-10 that I put a 305 small block in. That 305 didn't have the hp this 3.5 liter has, so I'm really hoping for something impressive here. I don't want a drag race truck mind you. I just don't ever want to end up feeling like I'm driving a 4 cyl Honda again.

On a side note, I wanted to chime in and ask if you other early adopters have had any fit and finish problems? Not a complaint at all, but I noticed the bar just under the stereo that has the airbag lights and hazards button wasn't completely assembled and half the clips weren't in place. The whole piece was warped but was easily remedied by pushing the bottom edge up so the clips fell into their slots. Just wanted to warn others to check the bottom side of the interior trim and make sure it's good. It took me 3 days to notice and only then after I started mucking about with the 12v power outlet. I took pictures but I guess I didn't save them. Else I'd upload.

Anyway, If I only ever get the same experience I'm having now, nursing this truck through the break in period, I'll still be satisfied with my new Tacoma. I also take great comfort in knowing you guys are here should I have any questions!

Attached is the only pic I have so far.

Funny, my Stage-2 WRX was getting 16 mpg mixed... maybe that was due to my driving habits though....

I got 1820 miles on mines and after 1500 miles it felt more snappy and I was getting better MPG 1 to 2 gallons better my best mpg is 24.7 on 6spd automatic 2wd v6. I had no issues with the interiors or the vibrating hood so far. My Tacoma was built in Baja MX.

Haha yup. Well my old 2004 Sti stage 2 got 12 town 16 highway so it's about the same. They leaned out the 08 and up. Stock I had my best of 29 highway off boost I mode. In S# I can get as low as 15 to 17 mix... with a heavy foot.

Happy with mine! MPG is not as great as I've been reading... I'm about 2.5k miles in. Mostly Highway, averaging 18ish. I do have a 3" lift, but I didn't put that on until about 1k miles. Even before that 18-19ish.

Other than that... Its awesome. Fast when you need it, smooth, quite and (most importantly) fun.

Looks great! Which model is that?

I don't notice how close the TRD decals are to the top of the bed until I see a cap on.
