What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

They fit... Barely.
Fxr 3.0; had to cut the shrouds a ton though and these one piece headlights have less room than OEM headlights

Ignore the dirty lights lol

I thought everyone went with the fxr. I didn't think it was hard to fit them. Just trim the shroud slowly until it matches the curve of the headlight bucket. They put out a hell of a lot more light over stock.

 

That's fantastic. It would be less of a hassle and save a lot of time on a long trip. Or just make it so you only have to stop at the gas station once or twice a month during normal use.

So my truck has been misfiring like a mother upon startup these past few days. I've been told I have a bad head gasket by a toyota tech. I've seen the Lce head gasket kit is not that expensive but how doable of a repair is it for someone with little mechanical knowledge? I can't afford to let toyota fix it and my motor has 210k on it so I don't know if it's even worth it to replace...

 

If your mechanical experience is "little" find a buddy that you can pay in pizza and beer to help you, that way you learn and you have supervision to protect you from screwing up.

210K miles? That's it? Dude, you just got through the break in period. Give her TLC, fix things as soon as you know about them and there is another 210k miles in her.

Edit: Where do you live? There might be a few TW buddies, that would be glad to come over and help you.

 

Thanks for the suggestion man. I've already made an attempt at having someone help/teach me but I don't know if it's going to happen. Yeah I know I'm still low miles but I've stressed my motor out for years just by being dumb like not regearing when I got way bigger than stock tires and just everyday rodding her. I'm in rapid city sd but I doubt there's any tw members around here who would be willing to help me

 

Bought some fluid film to hopefully treat the frame. Will send it in for one last inspection before my shit expires.

 

Get in the SD BS thread and ask. These motors are tough, maybe you shaved a few miles off the other all life, but it still has a bunch in it. What are your other options? Trade it in? motor swap? You can't afford having Toyota do the gasket, you can't afford either of those. SO take care of her as best as you can.
If you have the tools, than start watching some youtube video on changing a head gasket, you might be comfortable diving into it yourself.

Thanks bro. I'll die before I trade my truck in motor swap would be ok but I don't want to unless I have to and I want to know that it's gonna be worth my while. I'll see what I can come up with for doing it myself/getting help from someone.

Got my big 3 upgrade in from the GB a few months back



Got a pile of parts that I need to install hopefully in the next coming weeks

Swap out the normal cables for the battery to bigger and better cables to allow better flow of current. Swap the starter, alternator and fuse box cables (hence the name big 3)
