my dad uses the Hero4 Silver for law enforcement body-worn demos as it has a screen in the back so you can see where it's pointing, seems to work great, something like $350 online.

Honestly any hero 3 or 4 is good by today standards. It all really depends on what you actually want to film and up load on. I don't even use my GoPro 3 black in the truck. I use a drift ghost s with a go pro adapter because it has a true car dvr mode. Read up on them because I think if you are buying for the truck / dash cam side you will like it more for that application.

The reasons a GoPro is "better" then the drift is negated for this application.

The drift can take USB power to run, continuously record and does the exact same recording quality. The GoPro is smaller and lighter but who cares when it's strapped to your window.

Or the Stealth 2 if you care about the size (that's what she said) and no built in screen.

I'll sell you my original Hero. Shoots 1080p at 30fps. A new one will set you back 400 bucks, I'll give you all the stuff that comes with it for 100

Hero 4 silver. Use the 720p 100 fps setting. Also get the skeleton housing, allows you to plug it in.

if you are looking at it for dashcam use look into DOD tech. I have one of their cams, actually getting a second for the back now.
    Love them. Great quality.

But otherwise I personally can't speak for gopro, but I own a Waspcam gideon. great camera. Not much cheaper but meh. I mainly got it because the parts store I get stuff from had them on special and came with a three different mounts.

Is there an adapter for the GP mount available?
I'm looking for something that records on a loop. Basically always recording while driving. I wouldn't download anything unless something exciting happened.

are you referring to DOD tech or WASP?
I've never tried but wasp is very similar in size to gopro.

DOD tech comes with a mounting kit, suction and adhesive.
Actually just saved my ass in an accident. Asshat rear ended me and said I cut him off and braked suddenly...yet video shows I was in front of him for two blocks and did not brake suddenly lol.

    I own this one
    http://dod-tech.ca/product/dod-ls330w/

and ordered this one the other day since its on sale
    http://dod-tech.ca/product/dod-ls360w/

DOD tech records 5min loops, and once SD card is full it starts overwriting the older ones. works great. and records audio if you want it.
Cheaper than a gopro as well.

no problem. you wont regret it. they are amazing.
I know as of right now they are one of the best ones on the market (at least in canada)
I haven't personally tried the Wasp dashcam that they make but I have heard good things. Never looked at price though. Happy with DOD so no reason to shop around. The video at night is amazing. I've tried even on country roads in total darkness with only low beams on still has great video.

I just bought the Hero 4 "Black Edition". Amazing video. I paid $380, Amazon Prime.

I even have the hill I was climbing on GoPro when I ripped off my Predator step lol

I want to get a Hero 4 "Session", which is nothing special, but I though it would be cool to have video of the cabin to go with the video through the winshield.

GoPro also has a free download of their video editing software, although I hav not played with it much yet. I need to upgrade my laptop; the video thse things create is a bit much for an el cheapo computer. You will need a real processor and a decen graphics card if you really want to splice together som good video

I agree with the above. Had the wife buy the Hero 4 black from B&H photo for $380 with no tax for me for Christmas. Need a memory card which they have also. Looking forward to documenting my 2016 Tacoma journeys. Best of luck.

B&H just upped their price to match everyone else. They were 349 a few weeks ago when my wife bought it

I just got the Hero 3 silver with 2 batteries and dual charger from Costco last Saturday ...$200.00 brand new. There is an instant $50 rebate on it.

Gopro is just an over priced name. I can buy 3 cameras for the price of one.
