    1) Got my letter today
    2) Called the dealership 10 minutes after opening the letter
    3) Asked about the clutch squeak TSB (which the woman asked what I was saying and I told her "Technical Service Bulletin" and she then told me that what I was referring to was a warning of a recall and that they had no solution yet.)
    4) Laughed because I know that is not correct
    5) Scheduled an appointment for this Friday

Special Service Campaign "Before you are inconvenienced by this condition, any authorized Toyota will replace the exhaust pipe with catalytic converters at NO CHARGE to you."

NO CHARGE = 2 of my favorite words!

Does anyone know if it is a required procedure, or I can just hold onto that letter and get it done whenever?..
I dont think there is anything wrong with CAT on my Tacoma. It has only 55K miles on it.

    Thanks

I missed out on a TSB toyota had done in the past on my 2007 tundra, truck bed rust though. It was going to be a $6000 brand new truck bed.

That being said, this is a TSB on emissions so... I don't know.

Did it they honor your truck bed TSB later or not? Or you never needed it?
I wonder if there is a valid period during which TSB or recall has to be done...

Please note that this is not a TSB or a recall, but a "Special Service Campaign"

What's the difference? Copied from Toyota website:

"Campaigns conducted by Toyota can be Safety Recall Campaigns, Special Service Campaigns and/or Limited Service Campaigns.

If you have completed a Campaign, but are experiencing concerns with your vehicle, please contact your local Toyota, Lexus, or Scion dealer for an inspection. Should you require additional assistance, please refer to the Contact Us section at the bottom of this page.

    Safety Recall Campaign
In accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act, when Toyota, Lexus, or Scion has determined that either a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety or a noncompliance with a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard exists in your vehicle, a Safety Recall Campaign is launched. The specified inspection and/or repair will be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner.

    Special Service Campaign
A Special Service Campaign is the Toyota, Lexus, or Scion owner notification program to inform customers about specific product or technical issues for which inspection and/or repair is being offered without an expiration date. These issues are typically customer satisfaction initiatives. The described service will be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner.

    Limited Service Campaign
Limited Service Campaigns are programs to inform customers about a product or technical issue for which inspection and/or repair is being offered for a specified period. Toyota requests that customers take advantage of this service prior to an expiration date. The described inspection and/or repair will be performed at no charge to the vehicle owner provided the Limited Service Campaign has not expired.
    "

    Toyota Recall

Under Toyota's definition of Special Service Campaign, there is no expiration date (see bold). SO.... Having said that, should you feel like your current catalytic converter is healthy and operational, I don't see why one can hold off until they really need a replacement.

If I knew my catalytic converter was in good condition, I would have held off, but there was an odd rattle that I just couldnt pin point which this service campaign fixed.

One of the quirks with your current parts can be sudden failure. Meaning at best you limp home, at worst you tow.

So yes you 'can', but do you really want to roll those dice, when it can be avoided for free?

It's not like waiting is going to get you anything extra. They aren't going to restart your emissions warranty clock on the new parts.

I traded in my 2007 on my 2014. The TSB was something if I were to keep the truck I would have pursued more so.

Thanks everyone. I will probably have it done when I get to the dealer next time.

Good to know it doesn't have to be done now though.

So I called the dealer and Toyota. There is no expiration date on the campaign as noted above, BUT they told me I have to get the truck inspected before they just replace the cats and if nothing is wrong, then I don't get new ones. This doesn't make sense to me, what if it's OK today and fails 3 years later? Anyone know what they are "inspecting"? My cat doesn't rattle, no CEL, no power loss, runs fine. I told the lady at Toyota this and she was like "how do you know it's not rattling?!?!?"... wtf

That's BS. Call Toyota Corp and advise them of the situation.

That was who I talked to second, I called the Toyota number directly from the campaign notice. They confirmed what the dealer said and want me to come in and get an inspection first, then they MIGHT order parts if mine is bad. Seems like the experience on here is people just call in and they order the parts to do the work. The dealer said they won't order parts until after they inspect and say its bad.

Try a different dealer. Or different service advisor.

    From the Toyota Website;

    "

    Title

Special Service Campaign (SSC) F0U - Certain 2010-2014 Model Year Tacoma 2TR-FE Vehicles - Exhaust Pipe Replacement for Catalytic Converter

    Status

    Remedy Available

    Description

In the subject vehicles the front catalytic converter internal components may become deteriorated and begin to rattle. If continually operated in this condition, the deteriorated components could become dislodged and restrict the exhaust flow. If this occurs, the vehicle may illuminate a check engine light, and, depending on the level of exhaust restriction, the vehicle may experience a reduction in power. Toyota has developed a new exhaust pipe with catalytic converters to prevent this condition from occurring.

    Remedy

Authorized Toyota dealerships are requested to replace the exhaust pipe with catalytic converters at NO CHARGE to the vehicle's owner. The owner notification will commence in Early November, 2015.

That's not the way I read this... Replace and prevent - not after ...

Mine came yesterday. 2013 RC 4X4 15,400 miles. I have always thought the 4 ponies was a bit weak. Now will see how the dealer takes care of it. Also have the Brake Actuator reprogramming recall and Heater Motor to be replaced. When I run the blower on high you can feel the vibration throughout the truck and the noise is real loud. My 36/36 runs out Jan 5 2016.

So im guessing it my CAT started rattling and falling apart two months ago, took it the dealership and they replaced the cat and down pipe, theres no need for me to get this replaced again? Or is this the latest and greatest version ? :)

You need to confirm this with the invoice/part numbers IMO.

Just spoke to my service advisor, he said bring the Taco in and they will order the parts and replace it with the newly designed pipe/cat.
