Guys, carrying O2 is a dumb idea in my opinion. First off it is considered "prescription only" as it is a "drug" in the eyes of the law. Also, what are you really planning to do with it in the field outside of your ambulance? It is indicated for fewer and fewer situations as protocols evolve in time. Not to mention it is dangerous to keep in your vehicle and can become one hell of a missile if it is damaged in the event of a crash.

Sorry, but saying O2 cylinders are prescription only is a crock of shit. There is literally no difference between medical filled containers of O2 and welding O2. They both come from the same container of LOX. The only difference is the paperwork that goes along with it as all medical cylinders have to be traceable. Standard operating procedure for any O2 refill is to vacuum evacuate the container prior to refill to remove impurities.

Yes to everything but +100 for the go girl lady pee cup thing. Looks silly and I got one halfway as a joke for my ol lady. Twice now camping in open desert with people everywhere and no bush to hide behind and at a concert where the porta potties looked like murder scenes it's been worth it's weight in gold. Not a life or death item but it's the handy little things that make everything run smooth

How can I store water in my truck this water and keep it from freezing? I was thinking of adding a drop of Vodka per litre. Any other suggestions or ideas?[/QUOTE]

Unfortunately I think doing that would create fractional freezing. In other words it'll still freeze on top and the unfrozen portion of liquid will have an increased concentration of alcohol. I think you've got to try to keep the water insulated. Keep it above freezing and have a way to warm it up, some good insulation and the heat capacity of water will go a long way. I don't know what substances one can safely put in water to keep it's freezing point low.

The Vodka thing works in high enough concentrations, but I don't want to be getting hammered in a bad situation. I just let it freeze. Normal plastic water bottles will freeze just fine. When I need water, I fire up the single burner stove, cut open a bottle, and melt some. Besides, Cocoa is better than water in sub zero temps.

Make sure you use the damn thing every now and then. I had an old one that sat unused for years as a "just in case" item. I decided to try it out one day, took a big sip and sucked up a mouthful of the most godawful tasting muck. whatever is inside of those things will crumble apart and make you throw up when it comes out.

use it or lose it applies to all your gear, I've learned. keep everything cycled out and fresh.

Better throw in another cylinder of acetylene for "welding" then I guess. Don't forget your torch as well. Not to mention if you plan on utilizing your "survival oxygen" on anyone other than yourself, you'd better have a good defense ready when the department of health asks wtf you were doing treating people with a drug.

Get off your high horse. I replace my tanks as they get empty and don't have coincide with any other tanks, smartass.
In case you missed it, the goal of this thread is survivalist. If it helps me and my family, I could care less about your laws as a medic. Nobody here is preaching to use oxygen for some random Joe on the street.

Go on then, badass. Save yourself from... whatever it is that you think a portable tank of oxygen and a nasal cannula is going to save you from.

What's your issue anyway? Is it because you're a medic? I wasn't the one who started posting about portable oxygen, genius. Just adding insight on your legalities post about being in possession of oxygen.

Not all of us live in the flatlands. http://www.mlive.com/news/jackson/index.ssf/2015/10/we_built_so_much_here_albion_f.html

That tank might last long enough to get you off the mountain and to an area with cell coverage. Most of the area where I work and play is out of network. There is nobody to call. Just me and my rudimentary med kit and lifesaving skills.

I think that in a survival situation, if you gave somebody who needed oxygen some, you could rightfully tell the department of health to fuck off.
