Which Oil to Run Toyota OEM Synthetic or Mobile 1 Synthetic?

    I got almost 2k miles on my 2016 SR 4 cylinder and I'm debating on changing the oil and filter. Debating on running oem Toyota 0w20 synthetic and buy it by the case for the best price I can get on eBay or buy Mobile 1 0w20 Synthetic......

    Either one! You cant go wrong with any of the synthetics on the market. Toyota OEM is probably made by one of the major MFG's of oil. Mobil 1 was the first and it is good. Royal Purple and Amsoil are top of the line. I use Castrol in most of my previous vehicles. Since there is ToyotaCare then let them do it for free the first couple years or 25k miles!

    One can never have too many light bars.
    Both are fine. I personally run mobil 1 but thats cause I don't know who manufactures toyota's fluids.

    Well just spoke to my salesman and he said free oil changes and tire rotations every 5 months or 5k miles up to 25k. So heck mise well let them change it for free for the first 25k. Never had a new vehicle so this is new news to me lol.

    I like Castrol for some reason. Will the dealership give you free oil/filter and let you change it yourself for those first 25k miles?

    I run Castrol 0w30 European formula, I have ran it in all of my vehicles for the past 4 years. Im not going to say its any better than other oils but I really like it. The toyota synthetic is awesome as well. I prefer to run a little heavier oil since in the summers it gets pretty hot, and the heavier weight cuts the engine clatter down a lot. I have reported ZERO mpg loss.

    Can't say for sure but I would guess not. In order for them to get reimbursed for the parts (Toyota USA pays for the "free service") the dealership has to certify they did the work and record this in the database. If you just took the oil and never actually changed it, or messed it up somehow, that dealership would have to take the blame for the botched job.

    Hm. That brings me to another question. Does not showing up for regular service at the dealership void warranty? What if you do it yourself at home, can they still void it? What if you just neglect to change the oil at all, I'm assuming they can deny warranty work for negligent maintenance?

    Yep under Toyota extra care!!! Wonder if I should still change it myself cause I never take to to the dealership to get the oil changed! I always do it myself!

    Does every new 2016 Tacoma buyer in the U.S. gets this ToyotaCare free service treatment? My salesman said nothing about it and I received no paperwork about it. By the way, I live in Louisiana where all Toyotas come through the Gulf States Distributor. I don't think that would make a difference, but it amazes me how much Gulf States controls. I already bought Mobil 1 to change my oil, but I'll let the dealership do it for a while if it's free.

    You have run the toyota oil in this other car and it doesn't burn any? Because otherwise this literally means nothing.

    I have a, '05 Scion xA that burns zero oil and has 120k on it. Had a 2012 Subaru Forester with 25k that burned 1quart/1500. Oil brand had nothing to do with it.

    Motor Oil Durability Comparison Test
    Found this article online of testing different motor oils. That are offer off the shelf at any auto supply store. Even tho it was done in 06 it was very interesting how they tested them. Royal Purple R51 came on top at $39 for 5 qt jug. Tho I still like my $17.50 Walmart oil.http://www.animegame.com/cars/Oil Tests.pdf

    You run that in the 16 Taco and Toyota finds out, it will void the warranty. The manual is very explicit. So be warned!

    Burned it? Probably not. leaked it is more viable. Synthetic is known to not sludge up and if you have a leak it will find it and leave!!!! You have to ensure you dont have any leaks to run Syn.
