You will only have two day access to the software as well.

At work, everyone has security professional, however that will do you no good because to do immobilizer/smart key resets, you have to have it approved by Toyota corporate, electronically. Techstream sends Toyota a signal basically asking for permission to do a reset.

I have the software on my personal laptop because I am a Toyota technician. Toyota techs have the ability to download techstream software from the Toyota technician website.

I have not used techstream lite and am not familiar with what it can or can't do.

TS lite is basically the same setup as ts you can just use it on any computer. I have a tablet with lite installed so I don't have to worry about finding one of our techstreams. Manager paid for the cable and the region gave us the tablets this year as gifts

I have no problem paying for the mongoose cable, its just the 1000 a year for the subscription.
Is there no cheaper version? The 482 is the same price as Ross tech roughly, but with ross tech once you pay that you get the software. The cable itself actually activates the software.

You'll have to email them and ask. I've never had to buy a mongoose cable. The subscription also includes access to TIS, which includes electronic wiring diagrams, tsb's, electronic repair manuals, etc.

I've already talked to mongoose, the cable itself does not activate the software.
Someone on here once said they got like an aftermarket version of techstream that allows all the same stuff.

Otherwise I might just do the 2 day subscription for when I really need it. I just want to change a few things when I get mine. It would be nice to have it the same as Rosstech but guess not. I'll probably get the Mongoose cable just to be safe. But I just do not get why it is 1000 for a year. If it was 1000 one time fee ok its expensive but still not that bad. But 1000 a year is really steep considering I just want to do scanning if I ever get a check engine light and then do a few changes here and there to the computers.

From what I understand on their website the standard subscription does not allow changes to anything, just gives you detailed info on the vehicle? Otherwise you need the full professional diagnostic version. Like even if they were to keep yearly subscriptions its just so unreasonable. Like if you want to be able to work on your car yourself its impossible at that price.

Like the title alone 'prior cheap techstream' what is this cheap techstream? or are they only referring to a cheaper cable.

I don't have a clue. I might have the install file on my laptop for version 10.00.29, and you're welcome to install that onto your computer, but after 30 days it will make you register it to continue operation.

    that would be amazing haha.
Considering I only need it to change a few things then probably wont use it much more.
For scanning purposes I'd probably just buy the two day any time I get a engine light and want to know what it is.

A $30 code reader would do just fine for pulling codes.

I'd need to see how the toyota computer is.
I thought the same when I started working on my jetta. Useless, only reads certain codes, doesn't let you get in depth or clear them the same way Ross Tech does. And obviously doesn't allow coding changes. Just getting LED tail lights to work properly requires a lot of coding with VCDS.

Like with ross tech you can not only see what fault is throwing the light, but see when it happened, at what engine speed, milage etc. to me that is really useful.

Most OBD2 general scanners can't do that as well. But if TIS doesn't go that in depth then maybe.
Its hard to judge, there is very little info on TIS online. Go on VWvortex or any VW forum and there are sections dedicated strictly to VCDS with screen shots etc of how to use it. But again its only a one time fee.

They also cant clear air bag codes etc. I'm not sure with the toyota if it gives you service reminders etc. But with my jetta every 8000km it will tell you that oil change is needed, and you can only reset it with VCDS.

TIS is the website database for Toyota that includes repair manuals and wiring diagrams along with tsb and recall info. Tech stream is the software. Techstream will give you code definitions, freeze frame data, active tests, so on and so forth. Toyotas do not have the ability to program anything outside of the settings you can customize. They are far more simple than vw.

well with tech stream you can disable things like seatbelt chime etc which is what I want lol.

But from what you just listed its basically the same as VCDS just probably not as in depth. But either way exactly what I am looking for. Just wish it wasn't so expensive.

But if you could send the link for the 30day thing that would be great. At least to give it a try and see if its what I want

That's what I mean by customize. Turn seat belt beep off, change light and beep response when using keyless entry, some ac settings, etc. the laptop with the download files are at work, I'll check into it in the morning.

man you folks make this unbelievably harder than it is. just get a $20 mini vci cable from ebay/Amazon from a seller in china with a cd, install the techstream software on the cd (which btw usually had a s/n to give full access to the techstream) and be done with it.

hell I did this, and after turning off my door chime on my 2014 4runner, I haven't used the software in 2yrs and probably wont use it again until prob 2017.

I bought a cheap cable as well. It did not include techstream software, just the firmware for the cable.

One of the reviews/comments on the Amazon product has good directions on how to make it work.

I'm interested in this as well. I've owned numerous VW/Audi vehicles and wife has 2015 Touareg tdi. The RossTech software is amazing. You can turn on/off almost any light bulb you want on entire vehicle. Video in motion for nav, seat belt chimes, number of turn signal flashes, and even program it to auto close sunroof and Windows when rain sensing wipers detect rain.

I bought cheap cable for my new taco, and downloaded TS from Toyota, but need SN to do anything.
