    I know a few guys that just ran a few beads behind the factory one and they say it works fine too. On some of mine I couldn't add the 1/4" steel because there wasn't enough steel to weld to so I just ran a couple of beads.

    I've seen the TC ones welded on and they do add some thickness to that area to help. So either way is all up to you.

    Sry to be a fan boy but if I had to give up all my mods I think the retrofits would be the last to go. I hate not being able to see at night and my OEMs were so bad that I sometimes couldn't even tell if they were on. Also I've really come to appreciate the sharp cutoff on the low beams so I know exactly when I'm blinding the oncoming traffic or hitting the mirrors of someone I'm following. The light is so bright that if you hit oncoming traffic you will get flashed like 100% of the time.

    I was in a group buy going for FXR's early this year but it fell through and I did the D2S minis which are much easier and look very nice. I might consider looking at FXRs if I do another set.

    Actually I'm not sure how the FXRs could be any better since they both use the 3" projector. Maybe the bulb and electronics are better.

    I was never a fan of spacers but I got them so I could run the Total Chaos outboard shock mounts. I kinda hate that I can't run manual locking hubs up front now tho.

    Maybe someone should start a group buy feeler thread so we can talk about the design. I'm most concerned with how the mounts are done and if it would be a good idea to add reinforcement above the headliner.

    I had the same issue, plus a bubbling heater core. My poor 3RZ was on crack, I mean it was cracked. The head had four cracks and two went to the water jacket that runs right above the cylinder pot. The truck was running fine other than that though, even cold starts just took a second or two to stop misfiring. But this last summer it finally went under the wrench and I had a shop put in a new head casting and swap my parts (cams, valves, and such) in with news seals and such. Now it runs 10X stronger than it ever did, even with my abysmal axle gearing. If there wasn't any knocking in the bottom end, I'd say go forth and fix the bitch. On another vehicle I might question changing just a head at 200K+ but a VZ or RZ bottom end is a safe bet. My truck had this work done at 191K and I'm at 195ish and all seems to be well. Every shop I talked to was willing to do the work but some warned me about changing the head on a high mileage motor stating the bottom end probably can't handle the stress. That's complete and utter bullshit and they know it, but it will help you weed out the mechanics that aren't worth your time. I should probably mention that we originally thought mine was just a head gasket as well, but once they pressure tested it they gave me the $1200 additional call. Good luck and get yours fixed, no reason to let a good 1st gen go by the wayside. I was discouraged and thought about selling mine as well, but I thought not even a different truck is a sure bet so why not fix the one I know the history of so far. Also GET AN OEM GASKET!
