I too have the hood vibration. I can see the dampening material separation. (TRD OR)

I called Toyota and the dealership called me to come in.
They looked and took pictures and sent them to Toyota.
Within 10 minutes, they came back and said the body shop will be fixing this.

    Haven't scheduled it just yet.

With some of the repair comments posted I am a little hesitant to actually have it fixed. I do not want dents, low spots, ripples, buckling, etc...
Definitely would not want the further hassle of fixing the fix. Which I would assume would be a hood replacement. I would think that getting a hood replacement would be extremely difficult.

Are they others here who have had this problem fixed but haven't commented yet? Please do comment and advice welcome. Should I do it, wait, don't do it?

Well, if Toyota gets enough complaints, then maybe they'll just end up issuing a TSB for it. At which point they'll probably have a more official "fix" for it.

FYI - I stopped at a dealer today that had 5 Tacos on the lot....every single one of them had this separating adhesive "issue." This may just be normal. As ghey as that is for a $40k truck to have a flimsy/vibrating hood....

I have only read one person having a dent after repair so far.

I just got my truck back from hood repair. Looks like an ok fix. No dents of ripples from what I can see.

Ah, never mind, I see the black now.

What did they use to fix yours? From what I can see it looks clear.

    Thanks

OK got my truck back, the 2nd attempt failed too, so 3rd try they used different stuff, to my surprise he called it expanding foam, so I must now eat my words as I'm sure there are many different products that are called expanding foam he did not use the "expanding foam" I had in my head which is the yellow stuff at home depot. They cut off and redid every connection point and repainted the bottom of the hood, to which I could not tell so that was satisfactory.

Here's the interesting part. They didn't test drive it over 60mph where the fluttering occurs. He said if fluttering still occurs with the new foam they would order me a new hood and paint the hood / fenders to match, which I said would be my worst nightmare as I just don't want non-factory paint on my new truck.

I immediately drove the truck up to 80mph, did not see much fluttering, it was not perfectly still, but 95% better.....I shall wait and see if the foam they used lasts.

they defintely used something else on my truck versus yours, yours looks like black rubber, mine looks like foam...

There is no directive from toyota corporate on the fix yet, so body shops are left to their discretion on how to fix it.

Here's what I got back today. Looks like white taffy. I still noticed fluttering going 65 MPH. Looks like a half assed repair to me as they didn't even get all the contact points. They left the old on and just put some new adhesive in different spots. I'll have them try again when I take it in for my first oil change.

Looks black to me. Is it window sealant?
I like the dollop approach. I would think that whatever is used should be like the original. Soft, non-hardening, withstand temp cycles, forces, etc...

Thank you all for responding with the fixes and pictures! Very helpful!

Took mine in a week ago, they took pictures and finally got a response today - Toyota said replace the whole hood. Have to wait for it to be ordered, yadda yadda, hopefully will be taken care of within a couple weeks or so.

Do you know if they ship the hood painted? I'm about to insist on a new hood but want it powder coated or however it comes from the factory and not sprayed by the dealer.

I'm sorry, I don't. I was out in the boonies when he called and didn't think to ask. I'll call back tomorrow and find out.

Agreed. I would hope someone from Toyota could read this thread to see the different "solutions" these body shops are coming up with. My hood fluttering is starting to get worse as well. I was going to wait for my first service appointment, but it's annoying as hell to notice on the freeway now. Everything from non factory looking black putty to white foam and even repainting the entire front end with a new hood. Seems these solutions are getting a bit ridiculous.

I'd question the hood replacement; hopefully it's not a dealership trying to take an easier route. It seams like there'd be an easier fix; there's a ton of reported complaints and I'd think a fix would be easier and cheaper for Toyota than a complete hood replacement.

FYI to self...NEVER, EVER AGAIN WILL I BUY A FIRST YEAR REMODLE!

My hood vibrates worse than a jackhammer.
The 2016 has been neutered (I.e. No balls) compared to my 2012.
It sucks down gas faster than a 1year old sucking milk from its mamas titty.

It may be more expensive for Toyota but they should have got this right from the factory. I think the right thing for Toyota to do is to replace the hood with a factory painted hood with the correct adhesive. Just my $.02

Oh I agree as well. I wonder about that dealership saying that's what Toyota is saying to do. Once Toyota opens that can of worms there's no turning back.

I'd also suspect Toyota would issue a bulletin or a recall if they were going to replace the hoods.

Really... Wow... Seems a little surprising to me. I really don't know what the correct fix is. Maybe it is a hood replacement. Maybe it is a clean off old dampening material and reapply.
Yes, the range of the various fixes is pretty wide. Interesting that there isn't one approved fix coming from Toyota other than have a body shop do whatever to a complete hood replacement (which I didn't hear of til today).
