I gotta say I am not super happy with my '16 Taco after pulling trailer.

I honestly don't care if the truck gets 8mpg. I just hate like hell to be damn hear rev'ed to the moon just to get up every single hill. I feel like I just put 5k miles of abuse on the truck driving 60 miles

Makes me wonder how many traded-in 2nd Gen trucks will make it back to their original owners o_O

It sounds like you didn't use the ECT mode...I think it would be different if you had.

I am anxious to see how things go when I bring the trailer back using the ECT mode.

So still slide it over to Manual mode? No need to let it shift to 6th unless its downhill.

Well since I had a first gen.... Completely different from a gen 3. I sold my 04 Tacoma and bought a 2015 Eco boost and that bitch will pull a house down. No no I'm not bashing the taco just being a smart ass

Pages 196-198 of the manual explain all of this. Even about the beep you speak of.

Even in ECT mode it's still going to rev high when pulling a decent amount of weight up a hill... It gets significantly more power north of 4k RPM's so that's where it's going to go when it needs the power. In fact, if high revving is what you don't like, ECT mode might make things worse. ECT basically prolongs the shift points higher into the RPM range and does not allow overdrive gears.

If you hate high rev's and want to tow, a Tacoma is NOT the truck for you.

Thats what I am afraid of. But if I use ECT then maybe it will rev higher in 4th and stay in 4th. If it revs any higher in 3rd it will be into the rev limiter.

The new engine is designed to rev, won't hurt a thing except fuel mileage. And agreeing with what was already said, ect should be engaged while towing. It locks out 6th gear and holds gears longer so the truck stays in the powerband.

    S4 with ECT on.
S3 if it starts downshifting a lot on uphill grades. If you pay attention to your speed/gear, catch S3 on the first shift, you won't loose momentum.
S5 if you want an overdrive gear.

    Why?
Not to berate the OP, but it's pretty obvious he hasn't read the manual or understands gear management.

Rev, like in a sports car? Vrooooooom!!!! Sure it won't hurt a thing over and over and over up hills at 6000rpm's. Not at all.

This is why the 2.8L Duramax is coming next month. And hopefully next year the Frontier gets the Cummins.

Why make excuses for a high rev engine slapped into a small truck?

This, OP's complaint still is legitimate with this new powertrain.

    Thats kinda obvious isn't it?

Sure didn't... Been busy reading other books that are more important to me. :)

I felt so as well. I had a 2011 TRD Sport and a LOT of vehicles over the years. This is Taco #5. I just was not real impressed. But I will see how it does with ECT engaged.

Because of the traditional mindset of truck owners regarding high-revving motors in scenarios like these. I wasn't making a stab at the truck! I understand revving the new motor up won't hurt it, but like others, I dislike the sound of a truck winding up like a 90's civic.
