And based on the quart of oil in the cup holder, I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say yeah it's time to trade'r'in.

The trade in value isn't going to be much "in the dealer's eyes". If I had an older Taco that I owned since day one, I'd keep it as a daily or project truck. Think about how cool it would be to see that truck hit 300-400k miles.

Yeah, davebilt003, I'd try to keep the truck if I could. Looking back, I think we all have vehicles and guns that we sold and wish we had kept. Sadly, once they're gone, they're long gone, and never seen again.

@Dean724 I'll post some pics soon, but the frame is good.. just surface rust, but it's easy to take off with a rough sponge and some acid. And the roads are more of dirt and caliche, I live in South Tx and it's pure crops down here.

Are you crazy? 2016 owners should be asking you to trade their truck in for yours.

If you were trading for a boring looking 2nd gen, Id say def keep it. While the 2nd gen is yesterdays news, you have a classic there.

In fact, even though the 16s are way better in every way then the boring looking 2nd gen, Id say keep it anyway. But still get the 2016!

My "one that got away" story is an 86 Trooper (2 door) w 55k miles. Sold it for a whopping $1,500 cause I thought why did I need 5 vehicles. Wish I kept it.

Again - 2nd gen boring, 3rd gen cool.

Assuming good 'health' of the truck structure............

    1) You wouldn't get squat in a true trade value. Yet there'd be a line in the back lot of the dealership for employees to buy it. Likely you'd find it on CL in a couple of days, owned by the salesman who did you in.

    2) IF you insist on ditching it for some crazy reason, at least sell it outright yourself.

    3) Just based on size, that vehicle will work trails a bulky '16 can only dream over. No, it would not be as lush on the highway. So what?

    4) If I'd have found a well kept truck of that nature when shopping, the 2nd gen I bought would have been ignored. And the only reason I turn my head when I see a 3rd gen is to avert my eyes from it's massiveness. As a truck, I'm not sure it does one thing better than all other trucks. Other than maybe the gee-whiz-wait-till-this-stuff-breaks category. And some of the colors are nice.

    5) The $35k you save by not making that move can do a lot, in all kinds of directions.............

I would honestly keep your first gen. You wouldn't get much for trade-in, and I'm sure in the long run, you would miss it, too. But hey, if you can swing it, keep it and get you a third gen, if you really want it.
