Is it okay to use a 1/4" spacer to compensate for taco lean? I've found the trim Packer isn't enough

That's exactly what I had to use - trim packer + 1/4". It's perfectly even now.

So I'm not sure if I'm the only one that this has ever happened to but here's my current dilemma, and sorry this is really long but I'm just trying to gain some understanding as to why my 887s sit significantly lower than they should:

In January of this year I installed OME 90021s and 884s (no top plate spacers), a deaver AAL and OME 60091s in the rear. I eventually got tired of the lack of lift I achieved because I made an ill-informed decision going with the 884s. I never took measurements but I'm sure it was only about 1.5" of lift or so. So in July I decided to swap the 884s for 887s (no top plate spacers), at this time I also added Dakars in the rear, but I kept the same OME 90021s that previously had the 884s on them. Anyways, my truck came out sitting super tail high, with hardly any height gained in the front, and far from what the 887s should have yielded. I've measured out about 23" Front Passenger, and 22.5" Front Driver (with the trim packer), and have since removed a leaf from the dakars in the rear and the rear sits at 24" Rear Passenger and 24" Rear Driver. I have no idea why the front sits so low with 887s, from what I've seen it should have given me around a full 3" but seems I only got about 2.5" at most (Still seems less than that especially when compared to tacomas that have for sure gotten 3" of front lift. Could this possibly be because of the 884s that were previously on there? Also when I was running the 884s, I was out driving on some Alaskan glacial silt near a river during break up season (when all the snow melts) and my truck fell into a 2ft deep and 3ft long trench/gap and I bottomed out HARD. So hard that in order to keep my truck going straight on the drive home I had to hold my steering wheel at a 3 o'clock position. My tire also hit my bumper and bent a little corner piece where the bumper meets the main fender. Anyways I'm just wondering why this could be, faulty coils? Messed up the shock somehow? From the previous 884s?

I figured whatever the problem is, that if I just got new shocks and coils all together that it must fix whatever the problem is, so next week 886 coils and 90000s are going on up front. So I'm hoping to finally get 3" about up front because i'm tired of spending money and adding/replacing suspension parts.

With 884s, 90021s, 60091s, and Deaver AAL, along with ugly Fuel Krank wheels and Trail Grapplers

    12341427_934133169967666_1748784569206232519_n.jpg

With the 887s, 90021s, 60091s, and Dakars (prior to 3rd leaf removal) it sat SUPER tail high, and even without the 3rd leaf it still sits very noticeably high in the rear

The pit of death, the water color matched the silt so it was deceiving, needless to say this was quite a gnarly encounter lol

With the 886s you should get close to 3". I have them and I have about 2.5" but with a lot of weight up front. Any reason you're gunning for 3"? Aesthetics?

Aesthetics, and the fact that I want to add a front plate bumper with a winch, so I don't want to be driving around looking like I'm going downhill the whole time lol plus I think tacos on 33s with a 3 inch lift just look really good and its a great combo, I've got the 33 part but not so much the 3 inch

Here is 2.5" up front and full dakar pack in the back. No downhill look for me.

Yeah that's super clean looking right there, if I can maintain about 2.5"+ with the 886s and weight up front like that then I'll be happy. Maybe these 887s were just defective or something, but most guys say 3" is expected

I've heard the same. You can always throw some spacers on top if you need more height from the 886s.

I've heard some say that 886s with top plates will cause you to lose too much up travel and that it'll put too much strain on the CVs (not sure if that's true or not). Would it be okay to add top plates in the case of not achieving something close 3" though? Im sure i'll probably get around 3" though, unless the same thing happens again like with my 887s lol

What are the 886x coils that I've heard about? I bought 886s recently from ToyTec Lifts and they just say 886 on them, am I missing something?

Anyone know if I can replace the coils on a Toytec BOSS lift with 886 coils to support the extra weight of a bumper and winch?

A few years back the X denoted heavy duty but then OME started making all their coils like this so they dropped the X from the partnumber. If you bought an 886 in the last couple years its an 886x. So no, you're not missing anything and should be good to go.

I'm not familiar with the boss lift but if the shock extended/collapsed lengths are in spec I don't see why you couldn't swap them out to different coils. Though with how inexpensive shocks are (relative to the rest of the setup) I would probably get one that is known to match like nitrochargers or non-clunking 5100s.
