I think it really depends on what you were running before these tires. I was running Firestone Destination A/Ts in 265/75/16 and was getting an average of about 19mpg. Once I put on the 255/85/16 Copper ST maxx I saw an immediate drop to around 16-17mpg.

I contribute this loss to a few things but mostly bc it's a beefier and heavier tire than the Firestones. I will note that the Firestones had only about 3/16" of tread left, so factor that into the comparison as well. A worn tire will have less resistance and therefore higher mpgs. I expect as the coopers wear, I'll see some increase in mpg, although I doubt it'll be dramatic. Bottom line is the loss in mpgs is acceptable to me for the more capable and aggressive look of the coopers.

I actually made a similar transition, Firestone Destination A/T in 265/75R16 to BFGoodrich KM2s in 255/85R16 and saw no change in MPG, almost a slight increase. Not sure how the weight compares between the KM2 and ST Maxx. Then again I also have a 1st gen with a manual transmission, so superiority and all that. ;)
But really, there's a lot of factors, so your mileage may vary (literally). Just have to remember to account for your odometer being off with the taller tire.

Makes sense. I'm currently still running stock rugged trails with 24k on them. I bought my truck used with 15k and in the 9k I've driven it I've seen my MPG increase from 17-18 combined to 19-20 combined.

I'll wear out the stock tires before I upgrade, but I'm doing my research now so I'm ready. I really like everything about the 255 st Maxx EXCEPT that it's an E rated tire. Not sure I want the added stiffness and weight.

Same. I really want that size, but I'm not eager to slap +12 lbs per tire on my daily-driver truck.

Sounds like you don't really want that size. ;) It's a trade off, a tough as nails tire with great off and on road performance in a size you want, vs. a slight drop in gas mileage. Choices

The MPG shit gets so old. Did you buy a truck or did you buy an econobox. If you wanted to get fuel economy, there are better choices.

The last thing I thought of when choosing tires was fuel economy.

Exactly. The on and offroad performance is #1 priority. I dont care about wear or weight

Agreed I chose the st maxx after I saw the puncture video, I didn't care how heavy they were I just know I'm driving in an area where that is important.

I've had mine for a few weeks. the off road performance is second to none without going to a full blown off road tire. Yet they handle great on road with limited noise

Had mine on for a few months. They handle good in the rain, put the truck hard in a corner gripped great. Handled doodle on slushy road. And was impressed with the way they were on wet greasy clay trails
