I have no idea what I'm doing

Does this look ok? Does it look way off? Fronts are 6x9 3-way and rear are 6.5 2-way. I feel like I'm way off from what it should be set at?

 

apparently no one else does either. I for sure don't. Never seen anything like that. Have you tried YouTube or Google?

 

Are you asking because it sounds bad or just curious if its a good setting?

 

Well I'm just not sure if this is in the ballpark of where it needs to be. I feel like it should sound better and since I'm just blindly messing with them I'm sure it's not where it needs to be? My ears have suffered too many gun shots to accurately judge.

 

I definitely would cross the rears higher... say at least 120hz or so. Bring the hpf on the 6x9 down to at least 80hz with a -24db slope if you have a sub. No sub and put it around 40hz. No amp, run them full range but the front should present more bass than the rears.

 

There we go! Somebody who know what's up! I knew what slope was, from the calculus end anyway, just didn't know how it applied here.

 

Awesome. I'll give that a shot. I have 2 separate subs that sound good IMO. Also have an amp for the 4 door speakers, but that crossover is off.

 

You can vary the slope to allow more bleed through, but a steeper filter and lower cross point will be cleaner. -24db doesn't present phase issues like -12 or -6db.

With the larger cone area of a 6x9, you may can drop it down to 70hz if avaliable, but don't be mistaken in how much upper bass harmonics is added/needed by subs even crossed at say 60hz with a -24db slope. Play around that area with both, keep slopes the same (4th order) and balance out your sub levels until the fronts "appear" to be doing all the work. The rears should only add a bit to fill out the cabin as well.

 

Can you tell us what front and rear speakers you're running and what your sub setup is? Assuming you have reasonable front speakers a crossover of 60hz-70hz would be fine. Let the subs take it from there on down. This way the sub and the fronts don't play the same frequencies. You can get fancier if you have more tuning options with a processor but I'd tell you to start with the below options.

Fronts: 60-70hz HPF with a fairly steep slope. 24db
Rears: 80hz HPF @ 24db
Subs: 60-70hz LPF @24db.
