I'm going to start just keeping a gun and some ammo in the truck. Every wound requiring care beyond a band-aid gets you put down.

Seriously though, guys. Different strokes for different folks. Don't get too combative about this stuff; it's bad enough we have to take shots from the people who think we're crazy for keeping this stuff at all and not just expecting somebody else to take care of us. Let's not start picking on each other too, lol.

That's how threads get locked! :goingcrazy:

Uh-oh, what's that cut on your leg? Too big for a band-aid....

All I'm saying is that there are about a thousand other items (first aid related or not) that would be infinitely more useful in a survival situation than a bottle of oxygen. This is coming from someone who carries a relatively comprehensive first aid kit in his truck at all times. As EMS protocol evolves, o2 is indicated in fewer and fewer situations. Hell even a code with CPR in progress only requires a nasal cannula flowing 4 LPM nowadays with rescue breaths not indicated unless there is more than one provider on scene.

Geez, started watching this thread yesterday, thought it would be cool to get some ideas. Its just been one big pissing match on oxygen.

So whats in everyones "Truck" emergency kit. meaning, whats going to keep your truck going? When i had less reliable vehicles, i used to keep everything on hand for the most common issues, like a gallon of anitfeeze, oil, hose repair kit etc. I hope im not getting complacent. One thing i have always kept is an air compressor, jumpers, socket set.

    I keep
I keep a quart of oil and atf, brake fluid, some electrical stuff, duct tape, snatch strap, tool bag and tire guage in the truck 90%of the time. I only throw the high lift and co2 tank in when i go wheeling or camping.

Isn't it illegal to horde antibiotics as well? Don't a ton of people do that in case of an emergency?

This thread is great for ideas but there is no use bitching at each other. So somebody carries something you think is useless. We have a full truck of shit. An O2 tank or an extra blanket doesn't take up that much space. You can have that and some other stuff. This isn't a "if you could only bring one supply with you what would it be?" kind of thread is it?

I like this thread and don't want it to get locked over some stupid shit like oxygen.

Speaking of Hi Lifts, I was in the parking lot of my apartment building getting some stuff out of the bed and somebody walks by and freaks out. "Oh my God he has a gun." I look around everywhere for this person with a gun because I don't have one in this city even since I'm in college and that is the reaction I would get. Apparently she thought my Hi Lift jack was a gun. Like yeah lady, This here is my 50 pound anti tank rifle mounted in the bed of my truck at all times...

Seriously. Like I get that it could look like a rifle to somebody who has never seen a rifle before but come on. That would be a monster gun. For an average college kid carrying around a gigantic weapon in California, not likely.

Depends on the vehicle. In the Tacoma I just carry a spare serp belt, jumper cables, a small air compressor and some basic tools because it's still new and reliable.
In my '84 plow truck I keep a gallon of premixed coolant, a couple quarts of oil, spare voltage regulators and ballast resistors, spare fuses, spare plug wires, cap, rotor, and coil, lengths of copper wire, jumper cables, spare belts, duct tape, and a compact Craftsman tool kit and various channel locks. Since it's such a simple rig basic hand tools are enough to practically rebuild the entire truck (the driveline was designed in the 60's and the body was designed in the very early 70's.) Everything's very basic and easy; all of the nuts and bolts are SAE and all of the screws are phillips.

Happened to a friend with a hood mount for his jack on his jeep. Lady called police with a "man with a gun" report and they actually put cuffs on him while he and his wife politely tried to explain that it's a farm jack. Got let go eventually, but to this day I keep that event in mind when it comes to mounting locations on my truck.

My friend up here has 2 ammo cans mounted in the bed of his truck for dry storage and has spray painted "no ammo" on them so that he doesn't get harassed haha.

 I kept an actual gun in my truck all through high school (hanging in the rear window, for god's sake) and nobody cared. :notsure:
