Any thought to adding slotted holes to the bottom of the support bars (as there are on the top bars?)

In initial design you have all large round holes on that piece.

There are slotted holes in the side plate. Would anyone use slotted holes in the vertical side bars?

 

@KB Voodoo I like this. I would definitely hold off until a long bed version is available.

I recommend building a simple tray that could be an add-on item, that runs the length of the rack and could be mounted to the outside of the side rail. Make it long enough to hold a couple traction ramps, or rotopax or whatever else so people have a little versatility and don't have to spend big bucks on the brand specific mounting hardware. You could make them deep or shallow, or even have a hinged front that would totally cover the contents and lock at the top to keep it secure. Am I making sense and are you seeing my vision? Should be pretty cheap and easy to make.

 

I should add, the only reason I would want them there is I would consider getting a canvas wrap made, and I think it would be a little easier bolting to the slot than rigging something in to the big hole. That could definitely be a "corner case".

 

I was thinking traction ramps and Rotopax could be mounted to the side plates. No??

 

There are slots on the sides of the vertical support bars. I think they would be a good place to anchor the canvas.

PS: I will be stoked if someone wraps one of these in canvas. We have an Amish community in my area that would do it cheap.

 

KB this is my biggest concern with the design. I've

If you make that rear edge tab at least 3" tall where your laser brand cutout is located and all the way across to both sides, we can very easily find about a dozen different brake light options to cleanly flush mount into that panel.
My plan is the kc cyclones- two red to replace my 3rd brake light and two clear to replace my rear facing leds that all will be blocked by the rack and RTT


I've been through a dozen crap China made led lights and these cyclones are bulletproof. But even if we wanted to go cheap, the standard oval trailer lights will fit in a 3" wide plate. I really don't want to use the 1" eBay ones - I've replaced those ones three times on our work trailers.
Plus, if you give me a little more room I won't bitch about your logo being cutout and would give me a couple more options to mount a clean red backlight to shine through it

As far as height goes, I think most people would love an option that sits higher than the rear window so we will be able to use our rear view mirror. This would of course block the third brake light but if you give us a little wider rear plate we can solve that quick.

 

I can make it big enough to accommodate a 2" light. Any bigger and it throws off my design.

 

Dang. If 2" is the widest you can make that channel it might be alright. The KC lights will sit flush enough with the edges to make me happy.

If you can also keep that rear channel that wide and uncut, youd keep the left and right edges open for lights and cut down on your labor too.
Two less cuts to slot out and the front and rear bars could be identical for all models.

Ugh that's sweet. I'd really like one. However, I'm stuck between a bed rack and a soft topper. Just wish someone made a bed rack that would take the place of a soft topper frame, that my friend would be money! Sub'd to see the final product.

 

As I said earlier, I like the fact that it's a bolt together and also made the suggestion of making one for the long bed. Would making bolt on extensions to what you have now so it fits a long bed compromise its structural integrity? If so, I guess solid pieces it is. I'll just have to wait till you make one for the long beds.

 

The long bed version will consist of horizontal members that are a foot longer. It will be available immediately.
