Emigrating to Canada?

I've been thinking about it.... Of course most of you know i live in Mexico, mexican citizen, so is my wife... we both have good levels of both spoken and written english... no french...originally my mother's father was born in Canada, in Saskatchewan i think...

I'm an architect, and my wife is a psychologist skilled in organizations.... but i dont think we can work on our professions without taking multiple bar exams and courses..... seems that the requirements are quite easy to fulfill, the only problem is that you need to have a job offer in order to prove you can support yourself and obtain a work visa....

the other downside is leaving both our families behind....

what are your thoughts Canadian fellas???

Good luck! I'm in Saskatchewan of course - and if you intend on moving to SK from Mexico...you better bring lots of sweaters.. it gets damn cold here ( -50C with the wind chill is not uncommon)

 

thanks for the link, i took the test it says i have 70 out of 100 points on the test, and the minimum to pass is 63, so im kinda ok LOL

Well, now that's very hard, in the first place it is difficult to get a laser visa, i've seen a lot of people, with good jobs, income, family, had their visiting visa denied, i cant even think of the process to obtain a work visa.....

of course it would be better because of the proximity, but i don't think that can happen....

my wife is an electrical engineer from Venezuela she was lucky and her degree was reconized her in canada. She had to take some APPEGA exams and done she got a great job with Halliburton as an engineer. She really misses home sometimes, but the situation in her country is very bad kinda like mexico. She hates the cold winters and the 90 day summers. Canada is great we don't pay a dime for our heath care and it is very good. Its pretty safe compared with the u.s or other countries. The taxes are high, the gas is very high. Housing is pretty expensive if you want to live in a decent city. Vancouver is great lived there for 7 yrs, but crazy expensive.
The nice thing about Canada is you can breath and its not too crowded. I know mexicans need a visa to come here now to not sure how hard it good luck and hope to see you Canada someday in your taco

I pay 15% over everything except meds and groceries, and i pay from 18-30% on income depending on the utility at the end of the month, the more utility the more we pay, oh and I also pay a vehicle property tax, the cash bank deposit tax.... fuck a lot of taxes down here....

 

As far as income taxes my wife and I are in the 35-40% range
Property tax is $3600 per yr
My tacoma insurance $1100/yr
STi insurance $960/yr
Meds are free through benefits @ halliburton
Utilities are high too around $400/month

 

wtf is a cash bank deposit tax

 

oh yeah, our president, treasure fat guy and congress thought that it would be cool to tax the cash deposit on the bank, because a lot of people dont pay taxes... for example

if a client gives me $30,000 pesos in cash, and I need to deposit that on my bank account, i can only deposit $15,000 in cash every month, the rest will be taxed at 3% rate so i would pay $450 for those extra 15k to the goverment.....

I just immigrated to Canada from New Zealand.

I had already been here on/off for 4 years on work visa's and just visitor visa's working for cash.

I applied for permanent residency in May, 6 months later it was finally done. My girlfriend sponsored me under the common law family class, it was a very long frustrating process.

You can pay immigration companies to help but they are REALLY expensive, I did it my self and it cost around $1500 CAD, the immigration service I went to said they would charge a minimum of $6000 and thats if everything went well.

Canada is an awesome country to live in, I lived in Colorado US for a year and prefer Canada, the country just seems to be easy going and laid back. BUt yeah completely different climate to Mexico!!! Where I live now we get snow in September all the way through to May! Luckily I can still fly home to NZ to catch some sun mid winter
