i love seeing pictures of dogs and other peoples rigs. I need to work more on focus and not having so much of my foreground in focus if I can figure out how to do so. great looking girl @mountainmonkey

As a rule of thumb, depth of field is generally extends from about 33% in front of your actual plane of focus to about 66% behind it. So to remove more of the foreground focus behind your subject if your goal is to remove the foreground.

I'm still learning, and enjoy the trip, from last week on the Canadian border hunting ruffies with the dog.

Your focus is on the mirror of the truck and the aperture is wide open causing a shallow depth of field making the front of the truck out of focus.

Same thing is going on with this shot.

On this one I would have focused on the Toyota sign and closed the aperture down to about f/8.

You are using a tripod with these shots, right? Night shots are usually best shot in manual.

May I suggest checking out a copy of this book:

This will help you out with some of the questions you've been asking about the D750. It's a better read than the manual.

Recently got a new Sigma 24 f1.4 Art lens. This thing is a beast; absolutely love it. Must buy more primes!

are you using a tripod? focus appears better but motion blur is a problem now from slow shutter speed.

Cool shot! I like seeing someone use a wide aperture and not blow out most of the shot.

You would close the aperture down to f/8 or F/7.1

This should explain it for you.

X2, you do well no matter what your capture medium is.

Can't help but keep going back to the ultimate beer in the 70's. Well at least the commercials.

Times have changed but they really haven't...

Primes rock and it took me a couple of years to realize that. 300mm makes a great portrait lens in the right situation.

But 300mm is not a good general purpose lens. Just saying. But it is a good basic start for a birding lens. Still playing around with Prime lenses to find a good comprise, it isn't as easy as one would think...

It's always funny when I hand my camera to have someone take a photo. They always look so puzzled as if they broke my camera when trying to "zoom" with the focus ring. I always get a kick out of it and tell them to zoom with their feet. :D
PS good looking dog you got there Mike. Duck Toller cross?

I think I missed my original intent to communicate the effectiveness and relationship between FL and DOF. When you bump up with a Prime at 300mm you can also change DOF to do some interesting things, and interesting visual perspectives.

I title this you know you are in Mn. when your ice fishing. And some SOB crowds your spot. In a damn boat...

It takes a good prime lens and FL and appature to pull this off. And it was through the Weekly challenge a couple of years ago that I realized that. I have learned more about photography on TW then anywhere else. Well maybe not everything but at least what others posted that it makes me search out the why and how. And I thank many of you for that...

Don, erh Sr. Chief, you are doing well, very well. I took the Coral Sea under the Golden Gate in 83 around the world. I was up for orders in Wa. State and the detailer promised me she was going to go in the yards in Wa. so I reenlisted to do that. Wrong... When I landed in NoPhuck Va. they flew me back to Alameda to get my FJ55. I walked to the end of the pier to say that I really did go around the world, that view is not exact but close. Thank you very much for the memories.
