Today I was sitting in traffic (stopped) on a two lane road, and as cars went by me going the other direction I was getting the dreaded noise. Each time a vehicle passed me the howl sounded off. It seem to be coming from the space between the bed and cab. Just my observation. Anyone else concur?

It could be. When I sit stationary in a cross wind I hear the howling sound as well. Like air going through a bottle.

There are several discussions already happening here. No solution yet, but my truck is quiet.

A lot of owners have same wind noise howling issue coming from the driver side. The more Tacoma owners complain about it, hopefully they will open a service bulletin. Call or email Toyota...

yeah I was kind of wondering if it was that long blade of rubber mounted vertically between the bed and cab.
the sound does seem to be stronger on the drivers side of the truck. I thought the engineers
would have caught this using the wind tunnel when designing the truck. might even be a disgruntled engineer
that was about to be let go that designed the empty bottle noise into the truck as he left. =/

It shouldn't be a straight up design error or else WAY more vehicles would be doing this. There are for sure a group on here who have this issue, but it has to be something that can be slightly different on each vehicle as it comes out of the factory, yeah?

you think they designed this truck in a wind tunnel? I doubt it ever rolled into a wind tunnel

@Z50king it actually spent a ton of time in there. The front air damn and those side fins above the side mirrors are products of wind tunnel as well as track stability testing. Toyota put out some videos on the wind tunnel stuff pertaining to those two features, which might mean they don't typically wind tunnel test and are super proud of it now :notsure:

I emailed Toyota today concerning the howl noise and the "luggy" automatic tranny at low speed/rpms.

I'm confident it's the moldings and seals.
It would explain the wide variables in observation.
Mine is affected by temperature, wet/dry, crosswinds, etc.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/dcsb-rear-window-molding.404388/
In the above thread above, I posted a link back to 2011; same shit.

Cleaning my truck out yesterday, I noticed a couple things different from my 2007.
Inner door frame molding is a lot stiffer than 2nd gen.
Inner door frame seal has weep holes on the bottom.
Fit is shit on upper seals for rear door and window.

Funny how Mike Sweeney brags about drag coefficientcy and aero fins, but can't manufacture a Tacoma to be whistle free. Good thing I like loud music or I would be pissed. The qi charger sucks and so does the entune messaging feature with a iPhone. Half the time it asks me if I would like to set up messaging, even though the show notifications tab is in the on position. ????Toyota

Aren't there some one-way vents back there between the bed and back of the cab that allow air to escape out when the doors are closed? These were designed because of the new door seals and without these vents it would cause a buildup in cabin pressure and made the doors harder to close. Maybe these vents are failing and causing the howl? Just an uneducated guess on my part with no real proof to back up my assumption!

I had very little road noise last night. I could hear the exhaust when it shifted into fourth on the highway. I had a podcast going and I could onlyu somewhat hear the road noise over the speaking

I've got the same noise but to be honest, its a truck. There are noises inherent to a truck that you don't hear on other vehicles. I am more concerned with the noise during a heavy rain of the rain on the roof of the vehicle. That noise is deafening and no loud music cures that one. I am thinking of dropping the headliner and installing dynamat to quiet it down.

Toyota engineer said this howl is from the driveline not wind. They put "ears" on the truck everywhere and determined its driveline noise and too common to do anything about. Many of us with this noise have had the dealer or us taped up every seal in the truck, removed the grill, wind dam,Shoved fiberglass between the bed to over the vents, wrapped our mirrors sealed tailgates, with and without Tonneau,Nerf bars,Mudflaps Cross winds, truck passes, tailgating, this noise does not go away......

Just got my truck back from the service dept at the local dealership. Had the hood fixed and the howl issue looked at. It appears there are Service bulletins for both issues. My invoice states, 'Toyota Field Tech adjusted doors per Service Bulletin'. Annnndddd.....The noise appears to be gone!
