These are my understandings (willing to be proven wrong).
E85 is not a viable product on it's own and only exists because of massive subsidies. This is a redistribution of wealth that we, as tax payers, are paying for.

We are not dependent on any foreign source of oil, we are the largest oil producer in the world and have some of the richest reserves. In fact we would be exporting oil if it wasn't banned. More gubmint interference.

 

The subsidies for ethanol fuel production put in place by the most recent Pres Bush admin expired in 2013. The prices we see now are market driven. Agreed, from what I hear we are the biggest producer of oil on the planet for the last year or so despite the Liar in Chief's environmental policies, yet we continue to buy from the ragheads.

From the research I've done, petroleum products in Colorado are sourced in WY, CO, KS & NE as is the source for ethanol.

 

The overtly obvious subsidies expired, but they still exist in the form of tax breaks/credits. Also, the government mandates that they put the shit in our fuel, that's pretty much a subsidy. If I can get the government to pass a law that says you have to buy my product, that's a lot like subsidizing. It happens with a lot of things actually.
I just hate ethanol in my fuel as well as the winter blend high VOC garbage. I think that actually works the opposite way though. I think the better summer blend fuel is mandated in the summer.

 

There are still corn subsidies. Ethanol, however is better than MTBE which was used as a fuel additive before...

Why, in a state that we are constantly in a drought are we using water for fuel? Also, we are degrading our soil at such a fast rate that we will not be able to "grow" anything if we keep on the ethanol train. Algae, Sugar, and tree based ethanol are all way more efficient to create.

 

the us exports all its oil, we buy everything we use here from othercountries, that's what is so dam stupid.its true we are the biggest producer and have biggest reserves but we export everything.

 

Has anyone in here done the 400W anytime mod and can point me to a good write up showing how? I've searched and searched and can't for the life of me find the thread anymore. I know I've seen it before but can't find that damn thing.

 

My understanding is that it's been illegal to export oil since the 70s.

iv neverheard that, all iv read was we export almost every bit of what we produce? ii think I remember sumthing about that being illegal or sumthin for awhile or they tried? I'm not sure.im gona have to do sum reading now that you got me thinkin bout this lol, just for curiousity sake .

 

I guess since 1975 it has been illegal to export crude oilbut not all, they are in the process now of trying to overturn that but we do export sum, but we don't use our own oil we import all the oil we use here, its very stupid that we pay for their oil when we have all we have!
