Just got the 255's mounted. It took a while, but 4wp finally got them in. So far I love em'! Granted I put 2 miles on them from the shop to my house. But not too loud, and the ride feels great. I do notice a small amount of strain from 0 to around 30 mph. Pics aren't the greatest, but here are a couple.

Update for my mpgs, after 1 fill up I got 17.0 mpg with my new Cooper ST Maxx 255/85/16s versus an average of 18.7 mpg with the worn out 265/75/16 Firestone Destination A/Ts. Can't say I feel much loss in power but I'm not one to be heavy on the skinny pedal anymore. I'll update after I get a few more full ups in case things change. Also havent checked psi on the Coopers yet, so that could also be a factor, as I ran my 265s at around 42psi.

the st maxx are a pretty stout/heavy tire so might eat a bit of mpg over the car'ish stock tires... well worth it though, i loved my st maxx!!

to an earlier post about the size difference between the bfg km2 and the cooper st maxx, that works out to .25 inches under the whole truck, not much at all but in some cases might be the difference between a shit show or not! i run the cooper st and they are 33.2 tall, have siping and are just as strong as the bf km2's sidewall. ...... just some details to add to all the confusion to tires choices!

Took my Toyo's into the rocks at 15 psi.

Traction was superb. Look! Tire with a view!

Back at home, checking out the tires, looking to see what the rocks did to them.

Only 1-of-4 tires shows any contusions on the tread blocks. Sidewalls all showed similar wear patterns.

Any of you 255 guys want to trade for some 295/75r16 toyo at2 extreme?? I'm really starting to like the look of a skinny mud terrain. They only have 4k and have been great tires.

Alright, time to poll the audience:

I really like the look of the 255's but I'm now looking for the right wheels to go with them. I'm running stock on a TRD OR 4x4, though I do have dreams of lifting it about 3" in the (not-so-near) future. What would you guys recommend for wheels (specs would also be appreciated) that won't have any, or at least minimal, rubbing? I don't do a ton of off-roading, if I'm not on pavement it's primarily driving mountain dirt roads.

Any input or pics of your setup and experience is welcome.

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
ive got mine on stock OR rims, I just barely rub the uca at full lock, a small wheel spacer would prolly fix that but if you have a stock bumper that might make it rub there as well. (lifted at 1.75" with 5100's in the front and about 2" in the rear)

Yeah, I want to get some aftermarket wheels since I'm kind of tired of the stock ones. I just want to make sure that the wheels I buy won't cause rubbing when I put the 255's on them. Thanks for the input though

How are you guys with the TRD OR wheels not rubbing the frame? Mine rub; and frame paint is long gone and is polished because of tire.

    IMG_20151029_204331_a4794e24e5a561f227ee23e4876b0eb9accabfbc.jpg

Also rub the UCA at full lock of steering.

I also think I rub the LCA just a little bit.

Your toyos are the largest of the 255's. Almost 3/4 inch taller than the st maxx and the dick cepeks, and probably have the widest tread of the bunch also. Gotta love the toyos!!!

Nick I had zero rub at max lock with the OR wheels and ST Maxx before I removed them. I will go back to this size in couple years when I can justify regearing. For now I am on 265/75/16 and went back to my favorite AT tire a Nitto Terra which have been great on and offroad. Now if they would just offer these in 255/85/16...

Speaking of gearing change....Are you all running manual or auto? I'm kicking around the idea of 255's with my auto.
