What are everyone's thoughts on the 3rd Gen? Has anyone considered trading/selling their Baja or Pro and getting the 3rd Gen? I will admit the thought is crossing my mind...specifically on the DCSBTRDOR4X4 with MT.

I know I can browse the 3rd Gen forums, but I am curious of the thoughts and opinions of fellow minded Baja and Pro owners. :D

No hurry here to get a 3rd Gen but that is a very personal decision. I normally keep my vehicles 8-10 years, and don't start touching the suspension until they are about 4 years old. The leaf springs on these after 2 years is so bad that I am going over this thread now looking at options. Don't think that is going to change with 3rd Gens either. I'm happy overall with the truck and have a lot of time and money customizing it and no hurry to start over LOL. But if your rig is not meeting your needs nothing wrong with getting different and newer, they certainly seem to hold their value well for trade in. Good luck!

Thanks. I am really on the fence, and honestly I expected to keep this truck for 8-10 years also. I just don't like the color and would like to take advantage of the upgraded interior. On the other side of the coin, I love my Baja and am happy with the truck for what I use it for. I guess it is one of those six of one, half dozen of another situations. I'll likely end up keeping my Baja simply to save the money I would end up spending to "upgrade".

    Thanks again for your thoughts...

Color is the one thing that bothers me also totally understand that, although I am slowly getting used to it. I looked all over for a Baja when I got mine and didn't check the local dealer, just figured they wouldn't have one. When I finally did check them they had a Baja B. Red sitting on the showroom floor that they couldn't move so took $6k off the list price. I jumped on it but really wanted white. Pretty much all my rigs since my FJ55 in 1980 have been white. When I do see one go by that is white I can't help but stare at it and think damn.....

Lol......mine is white. I'm still one of those people that don't like the looks of the 3rd gens.....but, I will admit it has grown on me ever so slightly. I'd like to see reviews on how well the new motor will stand up over time. Reviews I've read on people's first impressions is that it's nice...but it's not the 4.0. Also, I've personally dumped way too much money into my BAJA to be getting rid of it so soon.

Lol...this ^. I'm quickly getting to that point. I am one of those envious Baja owners that see the white trucks and wishes he would have chose differently! They actually had a white one on the lot when I bought mine, but my wife has a white car and I didn't want to go with the same color. Honestly, I would go with silver if I were to get the 3rd Gen.

I really like the inferno but I think if I actually were to get one it would be that sandstorm brown

I'm torn between the silver and MGM, but that sand color is definitely interesting. Looks different in person IMO. My wife hates it though, so it would be a tough sell since she occasionally likes to drive my truck.

I thought about waiting for the Pro release as well, but I worry that they will limit the color choices like they have on the Tacoma Pro/Baja for the last few years. I know I want the silver or MGM...

I'll probably end up keeping my Baja or waiting anyway...the stealerships here in eastern NC have lost their minds.

When i got mine I was there test driving a MGM and they dropped off a White and Red Baja. We were going to test drive the red one (I really like metallic paint and liked the black/red/bronze combo.) But there was a guy standing next to it and said "Sorry Im buying this truck, my wife is finding a sales man" - so I went for the white one lol.

On another note... anyone had the TDB done for the ECU with pinging? Ive noticed my truck is starting to ping under load before shifting gears. Im familiar with the sound from my older carburetor cars that were running too rich and got the pinging. Not sure how to explain it to the dealer though. They're pretty good at not being able to duplicate a problem while I drop it off.

So I went to one of my local dealerships last night, mainly out of curiosity, to have another look at the 3rd Gen. They had a loaded DCSBTRDOR4X4 on the lot, which I took for a test drive. The 3rd Gen was quieter and rode smoother than by Baja, but the new transmission (auto) couldn't decide which gear it wanted to be in. There was also a definite lag (like a drive by wire turbo lag) when accelerating from a full or rolling stop, regardless of which mode the trans was in (normal, S, and ECT). I loved some of the things about the new interior, but the exterior look of my Baja is just way better IMO. Their truck was black like mine so I parked them side by side for a quick comparison. It was dark and I parked them under their lot lights, but I couldn't get any usable pictures. Even so, the comparison did confirm for me that I like the look of the 2nd Gen better exterior wise (again, my opinion).

Anyway...cool story and all I know (sarcasm font). I just wanted to follow-up on my earlier ramblings about possibly "upgrading" to a 3rd Gen from our Baja/Pro trucks. From my standpoint, I was less than impressed overall with the 3rd Gen and will be keeping my Baja. That is until I can arrange a test drive on the future TRD Pro that Island Cruiser was talking about above, in manual of course and hopefully in silver or MGM!
