I didn't look as carefully at the 99, but yes... the chassis is clean. It's in good shape. That one is definitely in the back of my head as another option. It's got more corrosion on the tcase for example (not bad for east-coast, but there is *some*)... but that's about all I saw that I didn't like. I was toying with going back there and looking more carefully at that one.

    Oh! NM that's a different 99, I didn't look at that one.

    Same as everybody else...
Seems a little steep. If you plan on holding on to it for awhile parts may start to get hard to find. In not sure if this is a issue with Toyota but with some makes and models it can be.

Don't do it... pretty sure you can get almost the same thing for around 13K. Those low miles are impressive though!

I was like 'fuck let me buy it...then I settled down when I read it carefully and it reads 51k'....yeah, that's not going to happen.

That reply upthread about going to NM or AZ was the most reasonable. Take a few days off, enjoy yourself, drive home....Leave the other 5K in the bank

Be patient and you will find a lot more truck for a lot less. 100k miles is nothing for these trucks. Plus if the dealership is asking a premium price. There should be nothing at all wrong with it.

Just in case anyone is curious I went back to GW and got a 2000 tacoma, TRD, V6, manual, extended cab, 4x4 with 74k on it for $15,700. I brought it home today. It's a Reno truck.

This truck's frame also has no rust at all, all the rubber I could find is fully intact. Everything works flawlessly. Dented under the passenger door like it landed on a rock, just the body. 2 light scrapes on the T-case crossmember (someone wheeled it, but gently)... I don't care since I'm gonna wheel it lightly myself. It runs perfectly, tons of torque. 4.10 geers, locker, properly done bedliner (not the plastic crap), exhaust system looks just worn enough to believe it wasn't replaced. A few chips of paint and a touch of rust on the rear bumper.

Could I get something cheaper? Yes... but I might spend 2 years looking to save 3k. And I'm confident this one is solid, which is worth a lot. I got the perfect truck, low miles, it felt fair, and I couldn't be happier.

Thanks again for all the advice here. This is much smarter than spending another 3k+ to get a truck that's maybe a *tiny* bit better, but I'll make worse in a week anyway :p.

BTW... Love the "most expensive 1'st gens" thread.

I'm working my way through my "used truck overhaul". I undercoated the whole thing with fluidfilm last week. I greased the drive-shaft (which no-one seems to do) today. I tested the brake fluid and it's okay but not awesome. So I just now got back from autozone with oil, brake fluid, windshield fluid, new wipers, etc. I ordered some toyota LLC coolant and picked up radiator cleaner as the coolant in it looks like generic.

I disconnected the door dinger already. It has a dealer installed security system that locks the doors when I turn the car on, I need to pull that out.

It's not starting on the first or second crank, it takes 3 or even 4 sometimes which it shouldn't, but it's getting better as I drive it and the battery is a bit old. Once it's going it runs really smooth though. Once I change the oil etc. I'll see how it's going, I may throw some new plugs in there. Given the coolant they might be wrong as well. I'll probably replace the battery in the spring.

I also just ordered a Leer 122 with all the goodies so I can get this set up for living in. My GF just made up her mind, so we're hitting the road in this truck in ~3 months to live out of for at least 6 months, maybe a couple years. Gotta clean up and sell my Jeep, lots to do! This engine pulls like crazy. Love the truck.

I need to take some photos and start a build thread. I don't want to get complex, but I do want a lift, oversized tires, a platform in the back, greywire mod, roof racks, etc.

    Thought I'd pitch in.....

I'd never pay that much money for an older truck no matter how inflated the price of a Tacoma gets.

I happened to get my red 2001 Tacoma xtracab TRD 5 speed v6 4x4 with 116k miles for $6,000 ($6,750 out the door). Very Minimal underbody rust (mostly surface rust) and only a quarter size of surface rust below the driver door and on the tailgate.
