Automatic Headlights on 2015 TRD?

I am a total rookie to the new Tacoma. I have only owned Chevrolets up to now. I am used to an Automatic headlight set up, that I just set the switch and never touch it. They automatically go on and off as the light diminishes. I have read the manual and all I can see is that you have to turn them on when needed. There doesn't seem to be an automatic feature on them. Am I missing something or is there another solution. It says you can leave the headlights on all the time and when I open the drivers door they go off.
Any help would be great.
I am in Canada so that may be different than the US.

 

That is how my 2012 works. The switch stays on all the time, and the lights go off when I open the drivers door.

 

I have only owned Chevrolets and I am really bummed by what the Tacoma does not have. Things like an outside temp. sensor, auto lights, fully adjustable seats. Kind of archaic in this day and age. For close to 40 grand in Canada

 

I prefer the way the lights in our Tacoma's is set up, that automatic nonsense is stupid. Automatic headlights don't always turn on when they should.

 

I hate automatic lights. I'm a big kid and can turn on and off my own lights. Also, plenty of scenarios at night when I don't want my lights on, and I want to be able to make that decision, not some shitty sensor.

 

I think all cars should have them particularly for those morons that drive without their headlights on at night, auto headlights would put an end to that nonsense.

 

Most automatic light systems are full manual with the option of automatic as one of the settings.
I've looked into it some as I'll admit I missed it with the Tacoma (everything I've owned other than my 74 Bronco has had them). There isn't any easy way to add it - I may use an ambient light sensor and arduino to make my own system, but that will be more to see if I can as I like the quasi challenge...

 

Just saw someone the other day, pitch black dark out, just running tail lights, nothing up front, and I thought to myself, this mofo HAS to realize they can't see shit on the road.


To the OP, like has been said, you can definitely just leave them set to ON, just make sure when you close the door and they shut off, that you do not reopen the door otherwise they come back on and stay on from what I've seen on my 13'.

 

I definitely gravitate towards vehicles with less computer-controlled crap. I hate the touchscreen in my '15, and wish it had manual windows. I have been a Jeep guy for the longest time for that fact - you can still get one w/ manual everything, no A/C, etc. This is my first Taco and, while it def has more creature comforts than I like, it at least stays true to its roots. Not talking about the '16.

 

I too am surprised at the lack of upgrades on the Taco. However I also owned a Limited Sequoia at one time with every option and had one of those systems failed...big bucks. So I appreciate the taco for what it is, and what it isn't. Its meant to get dirty and take a beating while at the same time look dead sexy. Plus your Chevy trim, gauges, buttons will all be broken before your taco needs a trans flush.

 

I gotta agree with you on that. The reason I bought a Toyota was all the recalls and poor service I received. It is hard for me to say it but I am done with Chevrolet. I have been a Chev guy for all of my life and have gone to the dark side as most of my friends say. I live in a GM town and my buddies are all ex GM employees. (We are all retired now).
I guess the few times I drive at night I can turn on the lights.

 

Haven't you looked at your head unit?? Time and temperature displayed right there.... Hell, even a 10 day outlook if you're so inclined.
