I've never got good mileage from my 2002 limited edition DC. I just accepted that it was a heavier Tacoma and with nerdy nerf bars and a Snugfit canopy the weight was just costing fuel.

But I've just read that some are getting 260+ miles on a single tank. I know there are many variables that determine mpg, but given that my tire pressure is 35psi, my current tire size is 265/70/16r (toyo Open Country A/T) and the summer was nice and warm I am still only sometimes getting 200miles out of a tank. I believe my tank is 17 gallons but not 100%

Can I get some suggestions on where to start looking for possible solutions? Or should I go back to accepting this is about right for mostly city driving? On the highway I am able to get about 250mi averaging 65mph.

    Thanks!

Welcome to TW. First off the fuel tank is 18 gallon. Second the terrain of where you live makes a huge difference in whether or not you get decent MPG's. Mountains, lots of hill, winding roads can kill MPG's.
Basic tuneups are cheap. Proper spark plugs, wires, air filter, proper weight of oil (5w) can help. I get 17-18 MPGs average with mixed driving.

I have filled up my 2012 Tacoma Supercharged three times now since I bought it.

-I did not calculate the first tank.

-The second tank I averages 14.5 MPG - not impressed

-The third tank I thought I would really baby it the whole tank to see what I could achieve - 16.5 MPG - still not impressed at all.

Not sure why I am getting such crappy mileage? I have 265/60R18 factory H/T tires and I have a bed cover which should help. TRD air filter is clean. Tires are aired to 35psi. The truck only has 16,000 miles.

    Any Ideas?

The supercharger was installed with one mile on the truck, according to the dealer records. Would installing the s/c before the engine was broke in have an affect?

this is the first gen forum and they are NOTHING like second gens or the new 3rd gen trucks so maybe the forum with people who have the same truck as yours could help

its important to tell us what engine you have and is it auto or manual tranny, 2wd or 4wd

most regular 6 cylinders get around 18 mpg average and 20 mpg with manuals while regular 4 cylinders get around 19 mpg average and 21 mpg with manual

where and how you drive is the biggest factor and the additives they put in the gas in your area makes a huge impact on mpg as well

    Thanks for the replies.

    I have the automatic v6 4wd dc.

I'm in Vancouver BC and do almost all city driving.

Going to pick up a k&n cleaning kit for my air filter today and see if that helps.

Change your plugs (and wires if necessary), fuel filter, fuel/air sensor, go through a few doses of fuel injector cleaner, use the stock air filter. Change air filter once a year and use fuel injector cleaner every oil change.

I get almost 17mpg with 33s and a bunch of armor/heavy shit. And that's almost exclusively city driving.
