I would give you my old crappy Amazon housings but the right side has a rock hole in it and I am sure the glass on the left side isn't much stronger. Haha

Yeah sold both of them. Didn't you see my 1st gen SC in the classifieds for the last month?

Yes I had two...a 4th gen that I sold with my 7th kit a while ago and then I had a 1st gen that I rebuilt and just sold.

Yeah, unfortunately the reintroduction of the SC and for some strange reason people don't like the 1st gens, so the 1st gens just don't sell even though mine and his are brand new.

1st gens have to be sent back to be rebuilt, whereas second gens you can do in your garage? :notsure:

How about a Magnusen group buy? :D
I am tempted by the baja rack. I wish I jumped on the Gobi on T4R. haha

Both can be done in your garage, ask me how I know...

The only difference is the 1st gen in a 3 piece design (nose cone, rotor housing and manifold), whereas the 4th gen is a 2 piece (nose cone and SC housing). It is actually easier to rebuild the 1st gen as pressing the 4th gen rear rotor bearings are a PITA.

So how much should a used s/c go for and can you tell if it is any good without installing it?

This really depends on a lot of factors, mileage, condition, parts included and 1st/4th gen. I'd expect to pay between $800-1600 for a used SC, but a rebuilt one should go for around $1600-2000.

Hey guys was wondering if anyone knew how 3rd gen runner door panels come apart (1996) I'm looking to freshen up the interior alittle and I've seen the fabric replaced but never how to break down the door panel and handle.

The arm rest pops off, there are 2 bolts there iirc. There is a screw behind the interior door pull, and then a plastic clip that needs to be "rolled" off the door latch. There is a push-clip thing on the forward part of the door that needs to come out. Other than that there are a ton of clips along the bottom and side that need to get pulled straight. Be strong, but careful. I added a bunch of sound deadening. Worked wonders.

Okay I actually think the PO messed up the bottom of the door panels since theres a sizable gap. So the door panel can be split in half to replace the larger area of fabric correct?

Not that I was aware of. I didn't want to break the particle board so I didn't test it.

darn okay may have to do more searching I've seen the fabric changed but maybe they're just laying it over without taking it apart

I wish I could find one in that price range. I have heard the 1996 4Runners are weird with the S/C's though

96 are fine with the SC's. It's the 95-96 Tacoma that has issues.

I bought my first one (4th gen) for $450 with nothing but the SC. Sold it and later bought a 1st gen for $1000. Kept that and later picked up a 4th gen again for $700 with dynamic tensioner. Ran that one till I bought my Tundra. Also bought another 4th gen just to sell for $750. Deals can be found out there.
