Correct. The way the DD tower bolts the cross bar doesn't help rigidity, just makes it a nice engine bay piece. cutting the cross bar to incorporate the disconnects and then welding the rest of the cross brace together will give you more functional frame rigidity.

I don't think you understand, The way the cross tube bolts into the coil bucket towers takes away the whole purpose and function of a cross brace. You cant have a bolted "joint" in the same direction as the cross tube, it's going to move, it's basically a fulcrum point. Now, using the disconnects I posted and welding the whole cross brace together will give you some rigidity to resist frame twist.

I don't see the point in buying both. The DD piece looks clean. I do like those disconnects quite a bit. I'll just wait and see what you guys come up with.

Because you will just have a pretty engine bay piece with no functional purpose with how it is currently set up. Where the cross tube bolts into the tower bracket you want to weld that solid, not use the bolt to secure the cross tube. Cut the cross tube and weld in the disconnects. Now you have a more functioning cross brace setup and you can still unbolt the cross tube.

I smell what your cooking. I'm saying I don't see a point in buying the DD piece just to weld it solid.
I'd rather just see a 3 piece. 2 pieces that are solid mount to the top of the coil tower with extended grade 8 bolts to secure the coil and then incorporate those disconnects to the bar that runs across the motor.

I don't think you understand amigo... The DD piece is not " bolt through " like a hinged or connection it is threaded internally and uses a grade 8 bolt from each side so when it is bolted it is solid there is no rotation or " hinge" occurring. That clarification was provided on the DD thread.

I re-read the thread...didn't see anything about internal threading?

Well damn...my bad guys - I could have sworn I read that but it must have been from another product I was looking at. DD's reply was that it was a non bushing bolt through.

I got the WIY one to work on this issue, really mainly to get a nice top hat mount and the ability to add a secondary hoop. Not sure what the final design will be, but plan to add something, maybe another tube coming off the brace to triangulate it, or maybe weld the bolt piece on and adds flange like Drew's pic. Btw, is that from your old 4R?

Any opinion on the new rad support bushings now that you have a few miles on them?

For sure a worthwhile "fix" - if you plan on ever doing the body mounts as well just buy the entire body mount kit it comes with some for the radiator support. About 500 miles on all my poly bushings, no noise yet. @ckeene9 reported some noise in the cold the other night on his truck....might be hearing shit though! :crapstorm:

I thought I read that the rad bushings that came with the cab mount kit weren't very good? Is that what you used?

I would have used them, I did my rad support before ordering the other kit...they might not be good if your radiator support was already toasted and you wanted the taller one on top. I'll dig em out and take a pic if you'd like

I'd appreciate it. My rad support is still okay so this is more preventative maintenance for me.

Here you go! Same material as the universal ones, sleeved and comes with washers.

Looks fine to me. One of the posts in the other thread said they were a softer material though. Not so much?

I really don't think it's softer material, even if it is slightly they still are 20x better than stock

Thanks. I'll put it on my list of future mods and just get the one kit.

This is one of the most entertaining threads. The back and forth banter is great! Just finished reading from the first post.

I currently have a 2001 DC. I love it, but have been looking at buying a 2016 and turning it into my dd and comiting the '01 to a backcountry machine. This thread makes me want to say screw it to my plan, sell the 2001, and build a really nice long travel 2016. Thanks a lot!

You would be stupid to get rid on the 1st gen, it is a superior platform to start with IMO. Just build your current truck !
