Thanks for the info. I am debating now if I should just stick some 32 tires on and negate the lift all together for this truck, save the headache of having to worry about it 40,000 miles down the road (I like the ideal of not having to do heavy maintenance of a new truck, within the first 90,000 miles).

Axles. I believe they become strained when you lift your truck because they are no longer level, rather they are at an angle.

Take note that these things are specifically designed to transmit power *at varying angles* to accommodate for the full suspension stroke. With a lift you increase the angle a bit because the inner axle connection is pulled up away from the wheel.

CV axles aren't very expensive... ~$100/each. I figure it's no big deal, if one breaks replace it.

So, I'm about to put 275/70R17's on my '16 Tacoma like PJC1183 and \000/, but I have a long bed that I plan on putting a cap on.

How much more lift should I add to the rear considering the additional weight?

I would love to maintain the same rake. Curious if I should add a little more in the back for a long bed with a cap.

So it can become a problem for 2wd's too or more common for 4x4?

2wd's do not have CV axles. There are only 2 CV axles on a 4wd truck. One going to each of the front wheels.

EDIT: well... it looks like I'm wrong... you can buy CV axles for a prerunner although I'm not sure why.

EDIT2: actually, I think I was right in the first place. the reason I second guessed myself is because some websites I checked that sell cv axles claim they will fit on 2wd tacoma's...

Cv joints are part of the power train and have a 60k warranty.

Thanks for clearing that up for me!

So there's obviously less to worry about when lifting a 2wd right? Unless blocks are used, then there's possible damage?

Doing strut top spacers and rear blocks don't effect any thing different then an over sized shock does. The only difference is that you need to do the bump stops.

As for a rear leaf spring to add an inch that worse. It make the rear way to stiff when compressing.

your right that it is covered but most dealers will tell you that it was damaged due to your lift and will not cover it.

I disagree now a days. They get paid from toyota yo replace them and they know this truck goes to guys who offroad. I know my dealer wouldn't think twice.

Plus if you just have a over sized shock calling it a lift I don't think they will question it.

Both my dealers nearby declined to fix my tundra under warranty. Both my cv boots were kicking out grease. They were even trying to blame it on the shop doing the lift.

So with that said, it'll just depend on the dealership you go to.

You need to argue that. That's really stupid on their behalf. They get paid to do the job anyway. Just take it another dealership.
