I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. City driving is going to suck, highway driving at high speeds is going to suck. I find this way to be best.

I am getting about 20.5 mpg ALL highway. Boosted with a 2.85 pulley, URD intake, and an AEM fuel pump feeding the engine. 350 miles per tank til bone dry and walking.

    265/75/16 tires.

All this considering I have over 225lbs of additional armor and weight from all the suspension mods hurting me.

13.5-14 mpg is what I get if I drive it all city, 230 miles per tank until the light illuminates. I have squeezed it to about 260 before I filled up before, so in all truth I am actually getting closer to 15.2 mpg, 260 miles per tank if not more, mixed and mostly city driving.

You bought a truck, not a car, in all truth you see boost in about 5-10% of your driving experience every time you get behind the wheel so I would dismiss the "supercharger hurting my gas mileage" theory. You are getting correct fuel economy for what the truck is.

Not sure if your rim/tire package is heavier than my factory 16's, maybe that is a factor. I would second that the winter blend has dropped my MPG. Before winter I was pretty solid in the 18's mixed driving I started getting low 19's when I replaced diffs and x-case with Red Line synthetic. With the winter blend I down at high 17's. My S/C has been on since the first week and I have the auto trans. Dont think you are off the mark.

I'm 90% highway and I am 14-16mpg. That's what people in the city are getting. I live in a small town in WI. No stop lights. My city driving is cruising from one end of town to the other at 30mph. My work is the next town over so I drive 8 miles each way on the highway. That's about most of my driving. I would call that mostly highway. So, highway is 16mpg. Still seems low to me but I will stop my complaining. It is what it is. I was just curious is all.
We should have a dedicated Fuel Milege thread where people post average and list their mods.

Uhhhm... 14.5MPG? I bought my 2006 TRD Sport Package#2 Prerunner brand new, watched it unloaded off the truck! The sticker said something stupid like 23MPG, I drove it a few miles to the shop (maybe 7). Did stereo mods, ripped out a bunch of useless crap like Pold audio headunit, speakers, sub-woofer etc and the under rear seat compartments and behind rear seat bins and tabs, etc. Put new stuff in, then drove almost 200 miles home. 100% brand new, 17" TRD sport rims, 100% OEM tires (actual measure was 30.5 inches) running at about 80MPH, I got about 16MPG! Still stock, everyday driving I got maybe 15MPG. Been that way ever since. Everytime I put OEM tires and rims on for trips or whatever I get same results. Unless I take a long drive and run at about 50-60MPH the whole way, then it jumps to like about 20MPG and sometimes even tad higher!. With 33" BFG's driving in the city and short trips everyday on highway (I admit I have a heavy foot) I get ave. 12-13MPG. (used to get about 11MPG before I removed the carbon filter from intake). Interesting tid bit.. on the highway, running at about 80MPH, with the 33" BFG's if I start off slow, I can keep the RPM's at about 2000-2200 , the millage jumps way up, back to the 20MPG range??? Go figure.

Anyway, 14.5MPG for normal driving, thats not bad!

    BTW, watch mythbusters about bedcover.

I have found the mobile synthetic 0w30 to be very good. 1 tip though, if you make the switch to synthetic stay with it, don't switch back and forth alot. Not sure if it is a science, but friends who have in the past put synthetic when they had the extra $, then normal when they were on budget have always had ware issues on motor. Like I said, no scientific docs to support that, just a whole lot of experience.

I plan on going synthetic and definitely won't switch back and forth. I used mobil1 in my honda and plan to in the truck. Not sure about 0w30 though. I will most likely stick with 5w30.

the 0 in the 0w30 is basically helpful for cold starts. If you live where its never really that cold (like me) it probably will not make a big difference. If you live where it gets freezing and below it will help. Basically oil starts flowing better and faster at lower temps, thats about the only advantage. When you buy the 5 quart bottles, its like $3 more for 0W30, so I figure why not. :)

With the stock tire size you can do around 60-70 mph without loosing that much MPG. A lot of it comes from making sure to up the tire pressure from ride to economy specs. 29psi is definitely for the ride. Any more rpms and the valving kicks over into performance mode for more horsepower and that is when you loose economy. Hope this helps

PS. with my 275/60r20 duratracs (33") at 38psi and not having a horrible ride but definitely feel some of the little bumps I get 18mpg going though mountains (Coquihalla Highway, 1244m) in winter weather. I am closer to 20mpg when I drive on flatter ground.

I've averaged between 17-18 MPG mixed driving since I bought my truck. On the highway, it's 20-21 usually doing between 60-70 MPH. Towing my small boat or in winter, it drops to 14-15 MPG in mixed driving.

I don't drive very aggressively and I'm bone stock except for my Michelin LTX AT2s (on 17 inch stock rims).

I've had my truck just over a year and have NEVER hit 300 miles from a tank. I think the best I have ever gotten was the upper 280's. It's crazy how bad the MPG's are in these trucks.

I get 15-16 mpg in the city in a stock TRD O/R. That's pretty normal.

For highway driving I keep it under 75 and I hit 21 mpg regularly.

Haven't been able to hit 20 yet even on the highway. Mostly city driving and 14 -16 mpg. Stock with a shell.

I drive 8 miles each way on the highway. That's about most of my driving

This is the reason your mileage seems a little low. Short trips are about the same as city driving. Your engine will get it's best mileage when it is fully warmed up and with short trips you barely get to operating temperature. Winter blend fuels also kill mileage.

With that said, put away your calculator and enjoy your new truck. It is what it is and most trucks don't get good mileage. Have fun !

2010 V-6, Automatic, Double Cab, 4WD Off Road TRD: 14-15 in town and 16-17 on the highway (normal driving). That is with the 265/75-16 tires, so add ~0.5 mpg to correct for the slow odometer.
Best was 20.5 driving under 70 on a long highway drive. Or, 19.5 in Mexico going fast and loaded, using their great ethanol-free gasoline.

I average about 18.5+ for the first few thousand miles on my TRD Off, then I dropped to the mid 16's. I think it was a batch of bad gas, cause I am back up over 18 MPG. I ve noticed certain brands of gas just don't do well in my vehicles, I think Conoco/Shell does't do well for my MPG's but what ever brand Safeway is selling usually keeps me 1-2 MPG better than the others.

The best I EVER saw was right after I did a full switch to synth (case, diffs, and motor). I was driving 55 MPH for a full tank on flat ground with cruise and made 23.6 MPG. It was awesome but very slow. Certainly not what I bought the truck for.
