    Hello All,

Happy Friday! I got a call from my dealer friend that they got a 2016 I was looking for in. However when we got down to numbers it became apparent I wasn't getting a truck.

Sticker was 33K and on the form they tried bringing me the said it was 36K. They tried marking it up 3K hoping I wouldn't notice. They then tried to offer me 23k for my current truck which was a joke. Anyways they come back with a $700 dollar a month payment for a 36 month lease with 2K down.

Needless to say I walked out laughing.

    Just wanted to share.

Pay cash next time. See how everything changes. Having 800+ credit helps too.

You must be in socal. Adding an addendum to MSRP is a common occurrence here in socal. We have many threads on here about pricing in different locations around the country.

Also, this dealer friend is obviously not your friend. He tried to add 3000 to the MSRP of this truck and screw you. If you ordered this truck, you should ALWAYS agree upon a price before you order. THEY have the upper hand when a deal is not agreed upon. "Oh you want to pay how much? You're truck is right outside, GIVE US ALL YOUR MONEY."

Wow .. places in Texas play that game too. I found a good dealership ... had to drive extra 50 miles out of the way, but worth it.

How does having a credit score help if you are paying cash? Last I checked you don't need credit to pay cash? Your credit score can be 50 if you walk in with 350 hundred dollars bills.

    36000-24000 = $12000.

    12000 - 2000(down) = $10000.

    10000/36 = $277 at 0% interest.

    Mark up @ $700 over 36 months = 152% over 36 months.

    Sorry bro.

paying cash doesn't help. You can often get a better deal financing and then turn around and pay it off. There are often incentives with financing and it makes the dealer look good if you finance and pay it off early, so they will often give you a better deal.

    Correct.
By financing with SEToy I got the best rate, 1.9% and the 60k mile maintenance.
Bought my truck in April and will pay off by years end.

They wanted more than the MSRP on that truck? Seems ridiculous to me... also that would seem to be against what toyota would even allow...

And yeah, cash is no longer king. They make money off the financing, so you can actually get a better deal that way. Which sucks...

they are probably claiming "dealer add-ons" or stupid crap like interior and paint protection, seems pretty common anymore to find them over msrp, especially when they are flying off the lots

I've been working since 1968. After all these years, one should have a small amount of financial wherewithal.

I can tell you for CERTAIN many Toyota dealerships in Dallas are sometimes $5 - $10k over MSRP. No word of a lie, we were at a dealership and they changed the front price sticker while we were there and marked it up 5k. The parking lot was full of customers. There is no MSRP stickers on the windows .... so unless you talk to a salesperson you would only see the price on the card on the dash. This is why I went to Mitsubishi and bought a car. A few years later, A friend told me of a new Toyota dealership and his great experience and I went there and bought my Taco for MSRP.

I love my Taco and Rockwall Toyota is awesome!
