Just an update - The converter didn't provide enough juice. Ended up returning the winch and converter and bought the HF hoist. With is being on sale for $99 right now, plus a 25% coupon, I ended up paying the same amount as the winch and converter. Going to install tonight

I know nothing about winches - but are they designed to hold a load like that for months at a time, or do you brace it up there with something else?

TBH I'm not even using it for my RTT lol. I keep that thing on the truck all year.

OT - but I made an attic in my garage and it's completely sealed except for this opening (4'x8' plywood sheet) near the entrance to the house. One side is on hinges and the other side will be where the hoist goes. It'll serve as my access point into the attic.

Thats how i have mine as well. Except for lifting and lowering the winch doesnt have a load on it. If my weight bearing straps failed it would drop ~2 inches till the winch did catch it

Not necessarily. Most popular seems to be CVT or Tepui though. There are a few other brands as well.

I wouldn't say either company (Tepui and CVT) are preferred, about half and half really. Depends what you are looking for. If you want the upgraded HD version of a tent now then go with Tepui, if not then look at both brands, price, talk to both @Box Rocket and @Cascadia Tents and see what they say. Then you decide :D

Either of the brands you mentioned will be fine, it just comes down to your individual needs (1,2 or 3 person tent, overhang/no overhang/annex/ no annex/color etc) i could go on and on.

Talk to both @Box Rocket (Tepui's main guy on here) and @Cascadia Tents (CVT's main guy on here) and see what they say. Do you want the upgraded HD version? Tepui has their ruggedized version which I have an absolutely love. They will last longer than the standard duty tents. CVT is coming out with a HD version but not sure when that is supposed to be released.

Then decide which size tent you want. 2, 3, or 4 people going to be sleeping in it? Want the overhang? I love mine, keeps me out of the rain a lot better and you can get in the annex without having to go outside at all.

Then color is a big factor for some people. Do you like the CVT color better? I know Tepui has more options color wise that Adam can talk to you about. I went through Adam and he has top notch service for sure. I've also heard good things about Bobby's customer service.

Both are well reviewed here. Heck go to a meetup and youll see people with both brands.

Your best bet is to go to both sites and look at the specs on the tents. Both companies offer similar tents (ie number of people and size wise) but some differences. Functionally though, both work the same, unpack the same, and store the same. One of the biggest differences is probably the ladder. CVT uses a sliding ladder that tops out at say 8ft (made up number) where as Tepui uses a telescoping ladder that can extended further than the CVT one. Which is only an issue if you mount on top of a canopy, but even with my CVT i havent had a problem. I wouldnt worry to much about brand unless you were specifically looking for a feature like the ruggerized model (least till CVT releases their version)

What I would do....talk to both vendors. once you've figured out which model you would get from each vendor get a quote from both vendors. Then just get which ever one is cheaper. Then go out and camp and youll love it!

Thats what I did when i bought mine! Luckily it aligned with a group buy through CVT so I went CVT. But i have no problem telling someone to get a Tepui!

    Cham,

How do you guys attach the RTT to the bars of a roofrack/bedrack?

I have a Tepui and I am currently expecting a Bajarack to get here this week.

Any advice on attaching the Tepui to the Bajarack?
