i know that some "new age" churches believe that there's many ways to God, but of course that's not the truth.

We're all hypocrites, we're all sinners. The churches are not full of hypocrites, we always have room for one more. Come on over on any Sunday!

I've always had a mentality that questions everyone and everything. Why? Because we are all flawed. I question their motives, and the data they base their ideas on. After having read the teachings of Christ for myself, I find it so pure and so fundamentally correct, that I strive to follow it. Sadly, I fall short every day. I'm probably another one that non-believers point at and use as an excuse to dismiss Christianity. For that I'm sincerely sorry, but I thank God that I am forgiven!

Atheist. Raised that way. Well, more like my mother wasn't religious, and so we never went to church or had any religious influence in my life. Once I became older, I realized that was what I was.

Once I began looking into religion and what it entails, I thought to myself how is this even possible? Haven't encountered too many other atheists in my life, mainly people that are church goers, or religious but non church going. I may not believe in god or anything of that nature, but I don't disrespect or hate on anyone that does. Everyones got their beliefs.

I've been asked before how it is even possible to not believe in god. They were truly amazed it was possible for someone to not believe in god. My answer?

    Pretty easy actually.

    :amen: Or....ummm....whatever.

I find it easier to not believe in an invisible being watching over us, controlling us, etc than to believe all of the things in the bible happened. It's like reading Star Trek books and believing them. Ok, so maybe some of the stuff is real or close to real (Phasers/lasers, etc), but the whole story itself is fake. And yet it's gone so far that people hold conventions, create religious followings, even created a full language (Klingon) for the sake of it.

That makes sense, actually. Nice analogy haha. When ive asked how do you know everything you believe is true, the answer given to me was because its in the bible. Its like its a catch all super weapon, nothing I say can beat it. :D

Yeah. That's my big problem. I don't knock on people's doors preaching the value of Atheism, so why do people knock on my door preaching the value of their religion? Seriously, wtf is wrong with people that do that? If you aren't willing to listen to my beliefs then GFTO and stop trying to push yours.

I was raised a christian, however as i've gotten older i'm having a tough time following their beliefs. My mom had a cardiac arrest seven years ago and was dead for a few minutes, however the doctor didn't give up and was able to start her heat again. They put a pacemaker in her just in case and the only problems she had was memory loss, but she has since regained most of it. When she was dead she remembered sitting at a table in a white room with other much older people, with a man in a white robe at the head of the table. He never looked directly at her and that that was all she remembered. So having such a close experience with death i definatly believe in a godlike figure. However christian views on science pretty much just piss me off since they are so closeminded when it comes to new discoveries, that godforbid might discredit some of their beliefs. I havn't been to church in a very long time, since i never really took anything from it. So i'm pretty much against organized religion however firmly believe in a godlike figure whatever he/she might be.

    Heh.

I'm agnostic, and I hold that we can never truly know whether or not this topic will ever be productive as a forum discussion.
