I am in market for a hitch. Curt does not show a 2016 hitch on their website, but etrailer shows a 2016 hitch from Curt. It is a different part number than the 2015 hitch. It also has a higher tounge weight at 900 lb. and is rated at 6000 lb which increased to 8000 lb with weight distrubution. Their is no plug and play harness listed for the 2016 like there is for the 2015. They do have (recommend) a splice-in harness for the 2016. I am not cutting any wires on my new truck. What are my options? Does this all sound right?

I would call Curt directly and ask. Its possible eTrailer might just be assuming the vehicle is unchanged.

Curt makes the best hitches and hitch tubes you can get. I use their tubes for my SxS hitches I sell.

Hi I just got my limited but it don't come with the tow package unfortunately. I'm interested in bolting on my own hitch and hopefully a plug and play type wiring harness

I placed an order for mine with etrailer online. They called right after and and told me that they were awaiting the shipment from the manufacturer and said it would probably be a week. I said that would be okay.
I looked at the installation instructions and part Curt part number 13264 if definitely for a 2016 Tacoma. The hitch mounts with 6 bolts. Four bolts thread into weld nuts that are already on the main frame of the truck. The two remaining bolts are carriage bolts that go in the hollow member back by the bumper. These bolts get a tab installed under the head of the bolt to keep it from turning when you tighten the nut. All the bolts are vertical so there should be no fitment issues. The install time is listed at 30 minutes.
There is no plug and play for the 2016 Tacoma yet. At least I can pull my utility trailer around the property till something becomes available.

I spoke with curt 3 days ago and they said they don't have an eta for their 2016 hitch receiver........hopefully the tech I spoke with was wrong.

$167 from etrailer. I have never owned one but their reputation seems to be perfect. The hitch in stronger than the truck.

Now you don't have the wiring, trans cooler, oil cooler, power steering cooler, alternator.

I also dont tow a lot of weight(small boat)so its not really needed. The wiring is added easily and cheap for the lights.

Whatever you have to keep telling yourself. I'm glad I paid the $650 and got all the extra. The oil and trans coolers pay for themselves when you get in the hills.

I didn't say "go up hills", genius. Get a full 6700# load on your truck and start going up and down mountains. Monitor fluid temps and get back to me

My limited came without the tow package, I would have gladly paid $650 for it for sure.

Is it possible to add a trans cooler later to boost the tow capacity over 3500 lbs? Can the factory parts be added on? is the oil and power steering coolers really needed?
